superuser.com/questions/27229/ethernet-port-troubles/… It is by far just a myth!

comment Why is my PC freezing in 3D games?
If you have an external drive, you may as well eliminate EVERY software issue. Use clonezilla or similar to take an image of your current system, then wipe it clean and start fresh. If the problem remains, then all that is left is hardware. Adding as a comment since this is just a workaround and not a real fix or answer.

comment Charity membership drive – using a laptop as a signup form
Just a tip - use an external keyboard/mouse instead of the laptop one. It is extra stuff to haul, but they will hold up better to abuse than the built in ones.

comment Clear private data in Internet Explorer 6
-1 saying you must used a 3rd party tool. While not always user friendly, the ability has existed natively well before IE6. The question implies looking for a native solution. Also the opinion on IE6 doesn't help.

+1 I like the obvious non-technical answer. Sometimes the simple stuff does the job!

comment 100Mbps and Gigabit switch on the same LAN
Just want to point out that hubs are still useful for simplified port mirroring. We run some projects here that it is much easier to use a simple hub for than change around the main switch configuration.

comment Is it possible to download using the Windows command line?
Like I said, you have to deselect the option to prompt to save for that file type. For example, download a zip file, disable that prompt, and then in the future any zip files accessed from the command line will automatically save.

comment How do I solve network troubles with a wireless webcam?
+1 While the instructions are linux specific, the method is the same. You need to change a computer's IP to one that is on the same subnet. (192.168.1.X, and a mask of 255.255.255.0) You will then be able to connect to the webcam in a browser where you can change the IP to the normal network.

comment How to connect to XP Home PC from XP Pro using Remote Desktop
You used to be able to do a registry tweak to make Home think it was Pro, and then install remote desktop. MS patched that out recently though :(

comment Refunding Windows on a refurbished notebook?
The question asks if it is possible in theory. In "theory" I don't feel it should be possible. Especially the aspect of trying to have the change made AFTER the purchase of a USED system. If it was known that this would be an issue, bring it up before the purchase. Also there are vendors that do offer systems without OSes as well. www.powernotebook.com, www.avadirect.com and I'm sure there are others, but I didn't search in depth. Sorry if my response isn't happy fun and supportive, but it is realistic.

comment What if a USB was plugged in backwards, what would happen, and would Windows warn you?
+1 I have a mini usb drive similar to the one above, but smaller still. SuperTalent does a ton of them like that. It's nice and tiny, but it takes a couple tries to get it right sometimes.

comment Ethernet Port Troubles
One of our Dell Poweredge servers here reported a PCIE slot error earlier this week. Reboot did not clear it, complete removal of power did. So, this will fix more than just NIC issues!

Magical Jellybean finds keys for numerous applications and games. Looking at the config in detail, it finds Adobe Acrobat 6,7,8 and Photoshop 7 keys for example. Doesn't have everything, but it has a lot in there!

From where? The intent is to test the cable directly, not while the cable is connected to anything.
