As my domain name suggests, I'm a professional nitpicker — a technical writer. I've been working with computers for longer than I care to think about.

Good answer, except your "typically" rates a "citation needed". Reliable tape drives are not cheap, and I've never seen one used in a small (less than 100 users) org. And it's not obvious to me that tapes are more reliable than archival-quality discs.

comment Does upgrading Internet Explorer improve overall system security if I don't use it?
A very good summary of the issue. However, the suggestion that one could install security patches and only upgrade when a version goes EOL is not very useful. If you use MS Update (and it's impossible to keep up to date without it!), it's easier just to install each update as it appears, both patches and upgrades.

comment Why does my microwave kill the Wi-Fi?
Great answer, except that I'm skeptical that wifi interference is a sign of damage. If that's true, then most ovens are damaged.

comment How to change some of the numbers in word to be arabic numbers within Word
Tech Writer nitpick: The digits used in the West are usually known as "Arabic Numerals". That's because they were introduced into Europe by Arab scholars. They derive from symbols used in northwestern Africa and are sometimes called "western Arabic". The digits used in Arabic-speaking countries originate in the Middle East and are called "eastern Arabic" by us. Arabs call them "Hindu numerals" because they originated in India.
