I am a computer and video-game enthusiast. I also like reading (mostly fantasy and science fiction). I enjoy good TV and movies too, which is of course subjective.

comment How to make an XP machine on a network not able to access internet?
shouldn't manually setting up the network settings and in the process setting the DNS servers to a non-existent address (0.0.0.0?) work? or is my understanding of the function of a DNS server when accessing local computers flawed (that understanding being that they play little to no role)?

comment how can I transfer old drivers to a new Windows installation?
what versions of windows are you working with? Are you just wanting to isntall a newer Windows version (ie Vista or 7) on to an old computer with old windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP etc)?

comment Can I legally downgrade from Win 7 64 bits to Win 7 32 bits?
that includes any ram dedicated to other hardware in the laptop as well (such as a dedicated graphics card, which not all laptops have)

comment Windows 7 Computer with no Anti-Virus and NO Flash Disks, How Secure?
@MattJenkins at this point if MS had some way to magically make their OSes 100% secure i'm sure various governments would hit them with anti-trust suits for trying to put an entire industry out of business

while you'll never have a resident app that takes 0 resources, not all AV applications are created equal and some require less resources than others. however, an other strategy you might consider, if you are worried, would be to run Windows 7 in a virtual machine within the Linux installation. then if anything does go awry you can restore the image.

If you go in to the Page Setup and on the Header/Footer tab set the Footer to "Page 1 of ?" does that not do what you are after?

comment Why can't I renew my dynamic IP address?
depending on the ISP your account might be locked to one MAC address. If you clone another MAC and you can not connect to the internet then call your ISP to update your account.

comment Graphics are corrupted both in windows & the BIOS
regarding heat and if this is a new issue: depending on how old the computer is, how long it has sat where it is and various environmental factors it may simply need a cleaning/de-dusting.

if you un-check it and apply and then re-check it and apply does it remedy the situation? as for why it is happening, i couldn't say as i too have never heard of it occurring.

comment Mount 1x2.5“ hard drive and 1x3.5” hard drive in 1x5.25" bay?
they would fit (tightly), but i don't know that I've seen any adapters for that. closest I've seen was a 4x and a 6x 2.5" adapter for a single 5.25" bay.

have you considered running the games in maximized windowed mode?

comment How many disks does RAID One require?
while I'm sure it depends on the raid controller, you might use Raid1 with >2 disks (over Raid5/10/0+1) if you were worried about being able to access the data in the event that you lose the raid controller (ex: HW failure + no replacement)
