I started working at Twitter in November 2011. Loving it so far :)

I've got a blog at http://skilldrick.co.uk where I talk about programming (mostly JavaScript and Ruby at the moment).

comment How long should it take Cygwin to load?
I have the same problems, although 2-3 minutes is a looong time. Mine's more like 20 seconds (but I have got a fairly speedy computer).

comment Installing Arch Linux and Windows 7: need partitioning help
In the end the partitioning didn't mess it up, but installing grub on the Windows partition did :P I reinstalled Windows from disc and now I've got Windows and Arch installed side-by-side and happy :)

comment Samsung Recovery Solution 4: can I make a Windows disc?
I've now found a source for Windows 7 install discs: mydigitallife.info/2010/04/28/… Now I've reinstalled Windows and got rid of all the useless partitions and bloatware Samsung forced on me. Thanks!

That's great, thanks. With the help of your answer, I discovered the Wikipedia section on this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_page#Manual_sections

comment C-l multiple times doesn't work in Emacs
@Justin Thanks, the problem was I was getting mixed up between Emacs22 and 23 :P I use 23 on Windows and 22 on Linux, and I was trying to use my Windows shortcuts on Linux.

comment C-l multiple times doesn't work in Emacs
That was exactly it, thanks! In fact, I was remembering functionality from my EmacsW32 installation - it was never in my Ubuntu Emacs, so that was just a red herring.

comment Excel sheet - automatic formatting
I don't think you can apply the 3 colours theory to this kind of data - it looks like you could end up with a lot of different colours...

comment Why do I get a 550 FTP error with Filezilla, but IE6 is fine?
No, but I'll never be able to reproduce the problem so it doesn't matter for me. It's probably a useful answer for someone else's similar problem, so it might as well be accepted.

Mean! Unfortunately I never got a satisfactory answer. Guess it's just one of those mysteries.

comment Why can't I use my own ftp.exe?
@Kenneth - this is actually the solution I came to in the end, but I didn't like the idea of having my own path before Windows' for some reason.
