I'm Danish and I study computer science. I primarily develop for POSIX systems. I think Rust is appealing.

comment How do I compare binary files in Linux?
I prefer VBinDiff. DHEX is using CPU even when idling, I think it's redrawing all the time or something. VBinDiff doesn't work with wide terminals though. But the addresses become weird with wide terminals anyway, since you have more than 16 bytes per row.

comment Firefox: Add a custom Google search including pre-defined keywords
@Steve06: In ready2search, the specified keywords are appended to the prefix that you specify. So if you wanted to use google, your prefix would be http://google.com/search?q=. On searchplugins.net the string "TEST" is replaced with your search terms, in the URL. So on searchplugins.net, your "Search URL" would be http://google.com/search?q=TEST

use this if you don't want the bell sound to queue: Bell() shell "(if [ ! -e /run/lock/bell_playing ]; then touch /run/lock/bell_playing; paplay /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/bell.ogg; rm /run/lock/bell_playing; fi ) &"

@StevenLu: no, the sleep is not a busy wait. The problem is that if the sleep is in the body, Control-C will kill the sleep and the loop will start over. Power usage of starting the loop over is insignificant. Try it yourself in a terminal. You need to hold Control-C for it to work, if you have sleep in the body.

comment How do I get AVX support in QEMU?
Yes, thank you very much. I realize that QEMU requires host support since I now know about the check flag and it triggers warnings, even about SSE 4.1. I'm using Bochs now but I might try Intel SDE later since Bochs has high CPU utilization even though I run it at 50 Mhz and with the idle hack. I don't have hardware virtualization support, so I can't use KVM. Bochs has support for more CPU features than real CPU's though. My current Bochs setup has SSE 4.2, 4.3, FMA3 and 4! Thanks again.

The most reason versions work fine. As I said, your list of packages is OK. The list is: g++, gcc, gdb, make. Also, you can wait for the installation to finish. Let your computer do it overnight.
