@HarryJohnston: I've checked the drive and folder path, and "Compress this drive / contents to save disk space" was disabled. Plus JPGs aren't compressible.

This isn't just a Cygwin symlink problem. Total Commander can't copy symlinks created with the Windows native mklink command.
