"there is no real way (that I know of) to tell that Thunderbird is "done" downloading from the original Gmail account" - TB displays the number of messages downloaded in the status bar. Is that not a reliable count?

Trying to open a rather simple, text-only, 9-page PDF with Libre generated a "General input/output error". The same document loaded fine in PDFEscape.
