comment Google Chrome Launches Internet Explorer on Windows 7 64-bit
@Joel Coehoom Chrome resides in the User directory. So it is entirely possible that it could have modified that executable even without Administrator privileges. So no, I don't think it got a lot deeper than he thought it did. I think it got just as deep as he thought, but it's just that you don't need to go any deeper to modify Chrome.

comment Does there exist a folder content reporter with printing and filtering?
I know of no way to do this natively in Windows via a GUI (in fact I recall this being one thing Mac users would miss in Windows). However, I do believe there are third party options available. This would have to be something I'd need to look up.

comment How to identify music after ripping an audio CD?
@Breakthrough Ah, that's interesting. I wasn't aware they provided that service as well.

comment How to identify music after ripping an audio CD?
@Breakthrough I have not tried that before, but perhaps it still requires information on what album the track came from? From there it can reduce the possibilities down to very few. Have you tried it on a completely untagged file? Because I am not aware of any database that responds to acoustic analysis (aside from Shazam). This is where I got the information on how it works, by the way: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDDB#How_CDDB_works

Autotagging for albums (via services like Gracenote) fingerprint the CD itself by counting the number of tracks and the track lengths. It can't identify individual tracks based on their content (like by getting an MD5 hash of the file) since encoding may differ depending on the rip. This does, of course, require the CD to be in their database. It's not always the most accurate system, but it's the one we have.

comment Why is my Administrator name always changing to “zeus”?
You would have to be careful when backing up, because you may end up backing up the compromised data.

comment How can I disable the “New hardware found” message on Windows?
If you don't want to use your Bluetooth device for security reasons, you can still install the driver but then turn off the Bluetooth radio. This option will become available after you install the driver. That's what I do most of the time unless I decide to use it at all.

comment Start Windows application from batch file without leftover command window
@Dave Oh, I misunderstood the original question. I didn't realize there was a second console window opening after the first one closed. I haven't been able to reproduce it (was testing with Notepad.exe). Perhaps it's just a behavior of the application you're running?

comment What is the size of an empty MS Word 2003 (.doc) document?
The differences in size between multiple users for blank documents may have something to do with differing default templates.

comment How to kill/restart automatically a specific Windows application if it begins taking 100% CPU?
The danger here is that some software will use 100% CPU if it's doing certain tasks, but Windows may report it as not responding. In these cases, it's not hung, but just busy. So I'd proceed with caution.

comment How do I determine if my Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit using a command?
@MaQleod I personally wouldn't call it a duplicate since it's asking for a specifically command-line only solution. The question you linked has an accepted answer for a GUI solution.

comment How do I determine if my Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit using a command?
I don't think so, because 32-bit mode and 64-bit mode are different modes the processor could be in. A processor could be in 32-bit mode, and I don't think the OS would know inherently if it could transition into 64-bit mode. However, it's a good point, it's something that would have to be tested. As I know my brother has a 32-bit Win 7 install on a 64-bit capable processor, I'll ask him to check for me.

@admintech How do you not close Adobe Reader properly? Or is it a latent bug in the software?

If you meant the Open file dialogs, then specify that in your question. "Browse to folder" could mean anything.

comment Windows 7 Paint program says my file name is an invalid bmp file
The Paint program in Windows 7 defaults to PNG for its image format. If you typed .bmp at the end of the file it might have overridden the .png extension, despite it still being in the PNG format.

comment How can I stream media from my desktop to other PCs on my home LAN?
Windows Media Player 12 is excellent. I used to use Winamp back in the XP days, where I'd agree, Windows Media Player just was not an application I'd use primarily. I rarely used it at all. But these days it has become my primary media player, since I got fed up with Winamp's instabilities.

I stream content between my Windows 7 PCs using Windows Media Player UPNP and shared folders quite a bit (depending on what I feel like using at the time). I don't know about subtitles either though; I haven't tried that out.

@Breakthrough good catch, thanks. Quickly glancing through the product page on Asus' site, this wasn't obvious to me (tiny board photos and all).
