comment Volume Control Windows 7
I'd recommend asking your teacher or school's computer administrator to try and fix the issue, if you really need access to volume. In most cases, it's better to work within the system than around it, if possible.

comment In Notepad++, can I copy multiple rows into the leading or trailing space of another file?
@Snailer It is a very handy feature. You're welcome!

comment Disconnecting wireless clients from the router during the upgrade process
Even though it is a TCP connection, if the WiFi connection drops during transfer, it can cause the firmware upgrade to fail, and when updating firmware on any device, that can potentially brick the device, since there isn't a way to recover if its firmware code is only partially written. It's like upgrading Windows, and finding some core system files are corrupted, preventing it from booting. Except there isn't a way to restore a backup because the code that does the install is in the OS, which is broken.

comment Securing Windows 8 against changing utilman.exe to avoid login bypass?
I'd say this isn't so much an exploit as it is simply mucking with Windows after having gained access. An exploit would grant a restricted user full rights to a machine. You can't perform this "exploit" without Administrator rights in the first place. It's a fun trick, but that's all it is.

comment Why does Windows default to MS Word to edit .html files?
@GaneshR. I would too, but Notepad is at least installed on any Windows default installation, and works as an HTML editor. I'm sure lots of people have their own preferred text file editor, though.

@Enigma Now that is odd. It'd certainly be frustrating!

comment Sound only from the right speaker
@Enigma Edited. Also made mention of double-checking the cables behind the computer, as I realized that it might be related, and is a good thing to check.

comment Sound only from the right speaker
@Enigma It is my opinion that Windows is sending a stereo audio signal to his speakers, hence getting sound from two of his speakers. For whatever reason, I believe the left channel is being routed to his subwoofer. He said he believes it's not a hardware issue after trying various configurations, which is why I mentioned this solution. Perhaps Windows isn't properly detecting his speaker setup and so he has to manually tell it to send a 5.1 channel signal.

comment Gateway NV59C (Windows 7) Connecting to a tv via HDMI
@AubreyPerkins Is this when the TV is hooked up to the HDMI port and displaying a picture? On my laptop, an entry won't appear until I connect an external display to the HDMI port.

comment Why are there no Micro USB to Micro USB cables?
@DanielBeck It wasn't clear that the question was concerning micro USB A to micro USB B. I interpreted it as A to A.

comment Motherboard went up in flames
@alroc I'm curious what kind of electronic defect in the PSU could cause such a thing, but I will defer to your experience, since it seems people are contesting my statement, anyway.

comment Sony Vaio SVT13126CGS touchscreen won't swipe in Windows 8
What does it report when you open up System Properties? Under the System section, next to "Touch:", it should say something about there being Windows Touch support.

comment Best console editor for writing a … novel? :)
emacs and vim are generally the go-to console text editors in Linux. [La]TeX is the go-to markup language for formatting the text, if you're not going to use an Office suite (or anything WYSIWYG).

Yes, startx is a command that starts the windowing environment. So you will need to log in at the text prompt first before you can run that.

comment Can one write on those new Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabooks with a stylus?
This is true but some Windows 8 tablets/ultrabooks do have active digitizers. See my answer.

comment Motherboard went up in flames
@BenVoigt That is true. However, unless the PSU catches fire itself, I doubt it would cause problems such as what was pictured. Poor power regulation can cause hardware failure, but I doubt it could cause the motherboard to catch fire.
