comment Windows 8 Start Screen: Show programs in order of most frequently used
@JohnnyW Haha. Admittedly, I didn't check the author of that question. However, it could be useful to others perusing the site. ;)

@JohnnyW You can. There are other questions on here that explain how to do this.

comment What are these weird graphical artifacts?
@patricksweeney Yeah, your laptop display probably is malfunctioning.

If you are seeing changing colors, it is most certainly a hardware issue. A static image will not reproduce the problem on other machines. It wouldn't even capture it, as the source image is not changing at all.

comment How to set separate Home and Work network locations in Windows 8?
@Windos I don't think that's it, unless you mean to say that I should be logging in under my work account (which does reside on our domain, here). I haven't tried this yet, but I didn't have to do this in Windows 7.

comment How to set separate Home and Work network locations in Windows 8?
@Windos Personally, I asked because I find that hard to believe. It does appear that way, but since Windows is used significantly in the workplace, and BYOD is only gaining in popularity, it seems odd they'd dumb this feature down at all.

comment How to set separate Home and Work network locations in Windows 8?
I did see this, and I selected the second option (Yes). However, both my home and work networks apply to that option, and aren't separated. I want my computer to treat home differently from work (different sharing settings, but enabled, and different default printers).

comment How to search for a folder from the Windows 8 Start screen
The ‘foldername:‘ syntax works under the "search files" mode, but it will then return files in the named folder, it seems.

comment How to backup Windows 7 and revert upgrade to Windows 8
In my backup software (Acronis TrueImage), it has the ability to "verify" a backup image after completion, and/or on a schedule. Would this obviate the need for the "test restore"? Regardless, I've restored backup images with no problem, so I'm not worried about my own backups.

comment Tweetdeck: Is wyUpdate safe?
Based on the TweetDeck release notes for v2.0.1 which mentions wyUpdate by name, I'd conclude that yes, it is legitimate.

comment partitioning problem: windows occupies 2 partitions
I once had my computer quad-booting (XP, Vista, 7 RC, Linux) on one disk. With an extended partition, doing such a thing is quite easy.

comment Upgrading Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro: What features am I going to lose?
I had to uninstall (completely) and then reinstall my AMD drivers for my graphics card before that worked properly after upgrading 7 Pro to 8 Pro. But otherwise, drivers aren't really an issue when updating.

comment Windows 8 doesn't boot up, only black screen and cursor
@spexygeek It's always best to include as much information as possible so that we can help you better and not waste time suggesting things you've already tried. But thanks for the clarification.

I'll add additional info. I don't know what you tried, but there are other things that are available before you'd need to resort to reinstalling.

comment Live Tiles on Windows 8 seems to be crashing
It's very possible that something messed up your installation. I would make sure you get a backup of all your important data and, if you can't find an elegant solution, be ready to take the more drastic step of reinstalling or at least doing a reset that doesn't save your data... Unfortunately I don't have a better solution than this. It might depend on what exactly happened, here. More information (like any errors you can find in the Event Viewer that may be related), and what you did between when it worked and when things started breaking would help.

comment Is it possible to display the Administrative tools as Tiles?
@SilverbackNet Ah, yes. The Settings menu from the Charms bar is context-sensitive, depending on what Metro app is open (or if you're on the Desktop).

comment How can I get the MAC address from my stolen laptop so the police can trace it?
They may use colons but sometimes I've seen MAC addresses use dashes instead (-).
