I can't speak for the original poster, but I use one NIC for the directly-exposed-to-the-internet network, and another NIC for my internal NATted network where my NAS and wireless trafic live.

Well, you can do that, but it would actually need to be if ! which ssh-add > /dev/null to prevent the path from being printed, at which point I'm not really sure it's any clearer, though I suppose it does save you one extra command invocation.
