comment How to expand Windows Explorer folder to show only the immediate child folders?
If you press the cross icon to the left of the folder in the folder tree, by default it will only display 1 level of child folders, as Dennis points out. Any other behaviour is the result of a modification, and could probably be rolled back.

comment USB devices recognised on Windows 7, but not on Windows XP
After the reboot the thumb drive is not displayed in Windows Explorer, and when I unplug and reinsert it an error appears saying the USB device is not recognised and has malfunctioned.

I went into the properties of the Mass Storage Controller in Device Manager and copied the device ID. I did a Google search and was surprised to find it was a card reader. I downloaded the drivers from my manufacturer's website, and Windows detected and installed the drivers for the card reader, as well as the Mass Storage Controller. The USB thumb drive appeared in Explorer, but displayed 0 items. I will try a reboot.

comment Access Denied on network printer
It won't automatically install it for you, but it won't force you to authenticate either. You just need to know the IP address of the printer. You can find this out by printing a network config page from the printer. Once you know this, go to Control Panel > Printers > Add a printer > Select local printer, deselect detect plug n play > create a port > Choose TCP/IP, enter IP address, then choose driver.

comment USB devices recognised on Windows 7, but not on Windows XP
I've removed and reinstalled my USB hubs etc. from Device Manager, but one device is not installed properly: Mass Storage Controller. This is obviously preventing me from accessing the USB thumb drive and external HDDs. Where do I obtain the drivers for this if WinXP does not have them?

comment Why doesn't hotspot shield work on XP?
What type of Internet connection do you have? It works on my WinXP, and I use a wireless broadband connection.

comment Java games applet not connecting to Yahoo
Thanks for your reply. I cleared the cache, and reinstalled the latest version of Java, but the issue remains. I have sure it has something to do with the corporate firewall.

comment Reducing the size of your Windows profile
Thanks for your comments Gents. (BTW, where are all the chicks in IT?). I want to do this to speed up the login time. I am assuming a smaller profile will help achieve this.
