comment Do I need to run defrag on an SSD?
In the unlikely event of pathological levels of fragmentation causing a noticeable slowdown on an SSD, taking an image and reapplying it would probably cause much less wear on the SSD than defragging would.

comment Any recommendations for a seamless 'Robust File Copy' addition to Windows?
If your files are silently corrupting themselves in transfers between hard drives, you've got bigger problems to solve that different copying software isn't going to fix.

comment Are there any negative effects of disabling the Last Access timestamp?
The Search indexer doesn't constantly scan for changes, it uses the NTFS change journal. Otherwise an excellent answer.

comment Microsoft Security Essentials howto auto download definition updates
The advice is spot-on. In the default MSE configuration, updates are auto-applied. If you leave it alone for a month, your updates will still be up-to-date.

comment Resolution Independence on OSes?
Your last sentence is what really seals the deal: Until we get more high-dpi displays on laptops and desktops, we're not going to see RI get "finished." That said, with most current GPUs, scaling hi-res bitmaps is probably faster and easier than trying to move too much to vector-based graphics. Text already scales cleanly, thanks to TrueType/OpenType.

Resolution Independence -- I wouldn't have expected the term to be unclear.

comment Is it safe to install Adblock plus on firefox?
Adblock Plus is the first extension I install on Firefox. When I install Fx for others, sometimes it's the only extension I install.

comment Anybody have a legitimate use for Alternate Data Streams in NTFS?
Most archiving utilities will not capture alternate streams. In fact, RAR/WinRAR is the only one I can think of off the top of my head (with the -os switch).

comment 64 Bit Machine running 32 Bit operating system
The Free/Open Source VirtualBox will also allow you to run 64-bit guests on 32-bit hosts, provided the underlying hardware supports hardware virtualization (Intel VT/AMD Pacifica) and has it enabled. Getting it working can be tricky, for example, with my Dell Optiplex 755 there were certain BIOS settings that needs to be set just right (and not all of them obvious) in order to get VT enabled so VirtualBox would see it.

comment Is there any benefit from installing Windows 7 64-bit when you have less than 4GB of RAM?
The driver issue is reduced because it's impossible to get a "Certified for Windows" logo or WHQL certification nowadays without a 64-bit driver.

comment Quick way to tell if an installed application is 64-bit or 32-bit
What does GNU file show with programs like Process Explorer, which have a 32-bit stub that detects it's running on a 64-bit system and unpacks a 64-bit image to execute?

A crossover cable isn't required if both systems have GigE ports -- auto-MDIX is part of the GigE standard.

comment Driver for writing to UDF partitions from Windows XP?
Snow Leopard has a read/write NTFS driver available, but it's not enabled by default. Last I'd heard, there were good reasons for that too -- it wasn't stable.
