comment how to copy a file over ftp ubuntu linux
Correct me if I'm wrong but wget username:password@ftp://ftp.mysite.com/foo/bar/file.txt should read wget ftp://username:password@ftp.mysite.com/foo/bar/file.txt

comment Why does this bash prompt sometimes keep part of previous commands when scrolling history?
This pinpointed the issue for me, while the current accepted answer was too generic.

comment bash 4.2 autocd command default over directory
good point about how would you ever run a command named the same as a directory if this was in fact possible, definitely not ideal for non-interactive shells. I don't recall the syntax offhand, but I assume it would be similar to how you bypass any aliases you've created to protect yourself from rm -rf * and the like.
