comment How can I set my current location for geolocation APIs to pick up?
Unfortunately, Geosense has been discontinued and you cannot download the software from their website. They recommend upgrading to Windows 8.

comment How can I merge two mp4 files without losing quality?
I tried using Avidemux to join two files together but the audio became out of sync.

comment What is the best way to organise media sharing amongst multiple devices on a home network?
Cool, good point about the Windows 2000 machine. I'll probably decommission it once the NAS is in place, since it is only 230GB. So with the media being on the NAS, how would the Windows machines access the media. Would this be done via file shares, or through DLNA/UPnP? I'm currently using WMP with file share from the W2k box. Also, any idea about how the iPhone would see the media?

comment Can't ping devices by IP address for devices allocated IPs by DHCP
I'll try a different router with it. I've ordered an Asus RT-N56U. I'll see if it makes a difference.

The Vista laptop and the iPhones are connected over WiFi. The machines joined to the domain are connected physically or are a virtual machine.

comment Can't ping devices by IP address for devices allocated IPs by DHCP
I can't ping the iPhones by IP address or name from any Windows machine that is part of the domain. I can ping it by IP address from the router, and from a Windows Vista laptop that is not joined to the domain.

Pinging by IP address.

comment Can't ping devices by IP address for devices allocated IPs by DHCP
A bit of further snooping reveals that any DHCP allocated IP machine (including Windows workstations) can't be resolved with nslookup. My Windows 7 workstation does have an entry in the forward lookup zone, but not the reverse lookup zone. The iPhones have an entry in neither.

I've checked the file and the permissions look fine to me. I've added the permissions details to the question.

Cool I didn't know about those. I've checked both accounts and the language settings are the same. On the Fonts screen the font doesn't appear so I'm not able to show/hide it. I've updated my question with more info.

comment How to boot from USB on Sony Vaio PCG-TR3S?
So even though I was able to boot from USB, turns out Chromium won't run on my laptop. It needs PAE instruction support which isn't included on the old Pentium M CPU. I was able to use xPUD instead, which seems to be a nice reliable minimal OS which I can put on a small USB flash drive.

comment How do I configure ODBC DSNs in Windows Server 2003 and Windows 7?
The machine doesn't have SP1 on it so that figures :) The C:\Windows\SysWOW64 version works good though.

comment How do I configure ODBC DSNs in Windows Server 2003 and Windows 7?
Despite getting answers that enabled me to load the DSN tool, it kept crashing everytime I used it. I found a tool by the same name under C:\Windows\SysWOW64 which isn't crashing.

Indeed, that is where it is. I'm sure I looked in there before! I wonder if I'm just blind or if it appeared after running it from the command line.

That certainly gets the screen loaded up that I remember, but it is crashing before a new System DSN can be finished :(

comment Why do the IP addresses randomly change?
By "domain name" I mean the machine name that is registered on the DNS server which is itself on a VM. Under VMware Server I was able to configure the networking for NAT, bridged etc but I can't find the equivalent on ESXi. So I'm using whatever the default happens to be.

comment Why do the IP addresses randomly change?
I'm not sure that it's the VMs getting assigned the public ip address because the ip addresses (192.168.0.xxx) appear correct when pinged from another machine on the network. The wrong ip addresses only occur when pinged from the Win 7 PC, which makes me think that the problem is only with that machine. I'm just not sure how to test/fix it.

That's correct.
