Is there a simpler form of find . -name “*substring_of_filename*” on Mac OS X and Linux? @BenU: I don't have a System with Mac OS X, but on Linux, the need for quotes arises from the shell. If I don't quote the "*", the shell tries to expand it. It is not needed needed for find, and not, if the * doesn't match something in the current dir - then it is passed unchanged to find. You may try single quotes, which are allowed too in bash, but would prevent variable expansion (which isn't the case, here, but sometimes else) -name "*.pdf.$id" for example. |

Is it possible to sign archives? @grawity: Signed applets, zipped in a jar, ARE verified before execution. To generate a minimal shell script, which combines verification (jarsigner) with extraction (jar) will be trivial. |

Is it possible to sign archives? What do you mean with manual verification? What is the alternative? An autopopup, which verifies itself every 10 minutes? Shall the OS automatically verify the archive on boot up? When an archive is received - be it from CD, email-attachment, download, ...? Should it be a plugin in your virus scanner? |

I guess - ad 2) instead of 'and fixing' I should have used 'and setting up '. To setup the sudoers file, read the manpage first, then ask a specific, new question. You can link to this thread for background information, to not repeat yourself. |

Why I have to type “./” always before an executable to execute it in Linux? The answer is only partly correct. The problem could be surrounded if the current directory was only used as last option. Then standard tools would still be found first. |

Find multiple files in linux @PaulR: If you don't use regexexs, maybe, but both, find and locate, can handle regex, and therefore it can be alright here, imho. |
