How can I see all the drives on my system, both mounted and unmounted? What gets mounted is the filesystem on a partition, which might cover a whole disk, but I wouldn't call it mounting a drive. |

Is there a GUI 'cat'-like program for any platform? Well - you save it, and make a starter in your panel, or combine a hotkey to it. Shall I explain how to move it into the path (sudo) or how to set the path to include a directory where you have write access. You can start OpenOffice, Gimp, Firefox - every command from the commandline. That doesn't make it a command line app. A command line app would run in the command line, work without X. |

Out of space while bulding kernel I didn't compile my kernel for years, but in former times, till about 2005, I did, and I did it on machines which had a total disk size of 2GB. I compiled the whole KDE. It took a whole night on a 233 Mhz machine, but I don't remember hard-disk problems. What is using so much disk-space suddenly? Yes, the kernel grew since 2005, but not that much! |

If I have a weird IP address, is that a sign I've been hacked? Yes, KCotreau, I understand that, but why is his IP suspicious, and not the IPs of his friends? |

If I have a weird IP address, is that a sign I've been hacked? 1) Why? Do you believe they're magic? 2) But theirs is different from yours too! 3) eth0, eth1, ppp0, wlan0 or localhost, ts. 4) Thanks. 5) I don't know what you used - it shows up your ISP for both adresses? Then: What's the problem? 6) (overall): Why should a hacker change your IP? What's his benefit? |

If I have a weird IP address, is that a sign I've been hacked? What is your IP, what is the IP of the roommates? Why is yours suspicious and not theirs? Do you check the right interface? How do you check your IP? ~they theirs? Did you do a whois 212.x.y.z and whois 81.a.b.c? Why not? ;) |

Out of space while bulding kernel @jcomeau_ictx: A recent tarball on my disk: linux-source-2.6.32.tar.bz2, is 64M in size. Extracted it will be bigger, and during compilation it will generate intermediate files, and the the final .ko-files - in /lib/modules I find files of about 90M. In total you might need 200M or 300M disk space, but not 3G. |

Out of space while bulding kernel @jcomeau_ictx: More than 3.4 GB? Not plausible. |
