comment Do I need UEFI enabled in BIOS for a 4TB external, non-boot disk?
+1 and the naser if you will state that it is not needed for non-bot disks, just so I am 100% certain. Thanks (I mean it reads that way, but you don't actually mention non-boot disks). Sorry, just want to tbe sure. Thanks

comment How to add an SSD and boot from that?
+1 and thank you. I did not know that reinstalling would adjust settings. Hmmm, is there any tool to do that post facto? Otherwise I have to borrow an external CD drive & boot from that. I used EASUS partition manager & copied the partition. Please let me know if I can avoid reinstall. It looks like you are getting the answer here, thanks.

comment (How) can I change the time until the screensaver kicks in from the command line?
+1 Well, that's trange. I can see that it is updating the registry key, but when I right click the desktop (or go via control panel) and choose "peronalize", it still shows 5 mintes on the GUI. If I set 10 seconds via registry, the screen saver does not start after 10 seconds (or even a few minutes). If I set 1 minute in the GUI then it does start after 1 minute (and it updates the registry correctly).

That works :-) The first time only :-( presumably because I didn't have a registry entry the frist time, so could add, but might need to modify subsequently? +1 for trying. Thanks

comment Why is my taskbar so thick?
Strange. Did you try clicking the top edge and dragging it down slightly to manually resize it?

comment Permissions … how to make a folder undeleteable?
+1 I am not sure that I understand "lock' a particular directory, not ALL the directories" - do you mean lock the directory, but not its sub-direcctories e.g lock /home/a but not /home/a/b or /home/a/c etc ?

comment Connection loss to random websites on LAN
I can only suggest a process of elimintaion. Comapre the IP settings in Control Panel (if we are talking about windows, else do the similar for Linux/Mac). Swap network cards. Connect the PC in the phyiscal place of one that is ok, in case it is just the cable. As last resort, back-up the PC and either fresh install or clone a PC with no problems onto it ... Something is different ... reaplce things until it starts working and you will find what it is

comment Can random data from a wipe or encryption of a full drive result in fake partitions appearing in the MBR?
Since that is clearly not the intention it could only be because of buggy s/w. Maybe best post to the TrueCrypt support forum? (forums.truecrypt.org) I can only say that I have used TC for years in the manner which you describe and have never once seen a new partition appearing ... sounds curios, best ask the TC guys

comment What happened to my recovery partition after upgrading to Windows 8?
ok, the recovery parition is the one before C, the 7.37gB. If you can't format M:, use partition-tool.com to delete it, and expand C: to fill the space. Sicne M: has a drive letter, what happens when you try to open it, or do a dir m: ?

comment Using OEM disks to install Windows 7 partition on Windows 8 laptop
I had thought (hoped) that they had stopped doing that - wiping the entire disk. It has been a long time since I saw it. Can you try on another PC and see what it does? If it does, then what about the Windows 8 install? Does that format the entire drive? If not, back up up your data, install 7 (formtatting the entire drive), create a new parition and install 8 to that. Or just buy a second PC? If you want to develop for the touchscreen aspects of 8 you will porbably have to buy a new device anyway in order to test.
