Tanks for your help, @Useless. If you edit your answer to say "enable legacy boot in BIOS", I will award you the answer ;-)

When I try to boot from UEFI DVD or USB it says that I don't have any after boot :-(

comment Harddisk reinstalled - can data be recovered?
Before you do anything else - power off the machine and remove the drive. Even when Widows is "doing nothing" it is writing temp files & potentially overwriting your old Linux data. Put the drive into an external housing and try to recover using another PC. Whether it succeeds or not, you have no learned the value of regular backups & will be doing so in future, won't you? ;-)

comment Make a specific program see the file-system differently on Windows
I know that you asked for a general solution, but if you find that you have to accept a Winamp specific solution then hopefully you can just do a global edit on the log files - or is the data in a database? If so, which?

I don't know of any such, but one possibility might be to sandbox the desired program (Winamp or wherever) and to make the symbolic link in the sandbox (or use a virtual machine, just for the program). That sounds like a bit of effort, so only you can judge if it is worth it to you.

comment Laptop Turning On and Off
"every time the laptop turns itself off, the hard drive makes a click sound!" - remove your hard-drive and connect it externally to another PC. That will let you know if it is a drive problem or not.

comment my laptop is not detecting wifi
Are you using a web interface to change the SDID? (like 192.168.1.100? That will change it for now, but if you don't save it then of course it will revert on restart. Click the save button

comment Can I reuse this RAM in my other laptop?
1 Thanks. So long as you are sure that I can't damage the old laptop (what about that voltage comment from barlop?) then i will just stick it in & see if it gets recognized.

+1 Thanks. How do I check the voltage? Will it be printed on it? (I don't have it with me at the moment)

comment Thunderbird 3 “Reply to all”, also replies to myself
You missed out the most important part (see accepted answer). Without this it will not work ... Right-click on you account name Choose Settings... Click on Manage Identities... Add an Identity using the e-mail address for which Reply to All did not work correctly.

comment Do I need UEFI enabled in BIOS for a 4TB external, non-boot disk?
+1 and the naser if you will state that it is not needed for non-bot disks, just so I am 100% certain. Thanks (I mean it reads that way, but you don't actually mention non-boot disks). Sorry, just want to tbe sure. Thanks

comment How to add an SSD and boot from that?
+1 and thank you. I did not know that reinstalling would adjust settings. Hmmm, is there any tool to do that post facto? Otherwise I have to borrow an external CD drive & boot from that. I used EASUS partition manager & copied the partition. Please let me know if I can avoid reinstall. It looks like you are getting the answer here, thanks.

comment (How) can I change the time until the screensaver kicks in from the command line?
+1 Well, that's trange. I can see that it is updating the registry key, but when I right click the desktop (or go via control panel) and choose "peronalize", it still shows 5 mintes on the GUI. If I set 10 seconds via registry, the screen saver does not start after 10 seconds (or even a few minutes). If I set 1 minute in the GUI then it does start after 1 minute (and it updates the registry correctly).

comment (How) can I change the time until the screensaver kicks in from the command line?
That works :-) The first time only :-( presumably because I didn't have a registry entry the frist time, so could add, but might need to modify subsequently? +1 for trying. Thanks

Strange. Did you try clicking the top edge and dragging it down slightly to manually resize it?

comment Permissions … how to make a folder undeleteable?
+1 I am not sure that I understand "lock' a particular directory, not ALL the directories" - do you mean lock the directory, but not its sub-direcctories e.g lock /home/a but not /home/a/b or /home/a/c etc ?

comment Connection loss to random websites on LAN
I can only suggest a process of elimintaion. Comapre the IP settings in Control Panel (if we are talking about windows, else do the similar for Linux/Mac). Swap network cards. Connect the PC in the phyiscal place of one that is ok, in case it is just the cable. As last resort, back-up the PC and either fresh install or clone a PC with no problems onto it ... Something is different ... reaplce things until it starts working and you will find what it is
