comment How difficult is it to trace a canadian dynamic IP?
I don't think that cable modem is making it any more difficult. And remember, modem's MAC can be traced too! And it's unique to the device.

comment my keyboard is showing wrong charecters on screen
@Jens No, it's not! IT'S GREAT! Do you really want to know how big pain it is to press shift+alt+x on for example Ubutu if you hve to change layout very often? There should actually be an easy way to disable it for those who don't need the feature and M$'s programs shouldn't install new layouts without asking users. I for example installedOoffice and magically got all CJK installed.

comment Laptop backlight intermittently working
If your backlight is trivially accessible, then you could go ahead. There is a chance that the backlight is integrated into the screen and that you might need to disassemble screen to access the backlight. The process isn't very complex, but is assembling LCD screens is, in my experience at least very very difficult. They are extremely fragile and can very easily brake.

comment Triple monitor?
@ Shiki OK, thanks. But a simple PCI card should work for simple display, right? Also, you can use two cards without SLI/Crossfire. I also heard rumor, but never tested it myself, that you can't use more monitors than one card supports on SLI.

No additional software needed. You'll get in Text services and input languages a list of installed layouts. You'll also have add and remove buttons and default drop-down menu. Simply select US as default and use remove button to remove unnecessary layouts. Next time you start your computer, it'll use US layout. If you don't have US layout, use add to add English United States. You may have several options, but there should be one which will say just US. Select that one.

Can you give me a source discussing need for motherboard compatibility with multiple discrete graphics cards? This is the first time I heard of it. Until now, I always thought that only thing needed was a slot in which you would put the card.

I think it would have been more in spirit of this site if you had edited your old question with data from this one, but whatever. I certainly hope someone will be able to answer this.

I know that this is off-topic, so I'm adding it as comment, but OpenSolaris can make a snapshot of entire ZFS file system and restore it later. It doesn't take much disk space too, because of deduplication. In fact the standard way to make major upgrades is to create a new FS snapshot and install the upgrades on it. If ti works, you can delete the old one. If not, you can just go back to the one that was working.

comment Does virtual box mean my hardware only has to be compatible with the host OS?
@Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams OK, but what about the "Although some VM products can work without it" part? On the other hand, I'm not so sure about "64-bits guest on a 32-bits host" part. I always thought that VT-x was part of 64bit instruction set and unavailable on 32bti hosts. Is that correct?

Why all down votes? It's good idea to look for computer with hardware virtualization! Several popular programs required it until recently to work with 64bit guests! (VMware, XP mode, VirtualBox) I know I regretted many times not checking if my laptop supports VT-x. I even had to hack UEFI to enable it. The RAM point is correct also.

My 64bit version doesn't. 64bit vista had beep completely disabled, can't guarantee for 32bit, but I think it doesn't either. Just to be sure, you can always start CMD and type crtl+g and after that enter.
