Operating system and disk format for a home server I think that windows 2008 has everything except proxy available on your original list. Still, it needs in my (limited) experience about same amount of updates as 2003. On the other hand, I believe you could do everything on Centos too. I don't remember right now if you need separate licenses for remote desktop on windows 2008, but you don't you could use it for management. Basically boils down to what you are more comfortable with. Also, GNU/Linux needs restarts only for kernel updates. I remember server 2008 restarting and not booting properly a few times because of default auto updates. |

Any free pdf to xps converter or pdf batch printing program? I'll try again with Foxit. My problem is that I have a lot of PDF which have lots of graphics in them. So far only Sumatra PDF worked fine and it remembers the last displayed page in a PDF. I did try Foxit some time ago, but it was too slow for me. |

For example thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/99f1 Here's a source for encryption debate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_Scramble_System Still, the encryption in DVDs is by today's standards laughable. |

Operating system and disk format for a home server Just a quick question: why ext2? It's very old and doesn't use journaling. ext3 has been stable and a default file system for a long time now and some distributions are starting to switch over to ext4. Is there some benefit to ext2 that does not apply to ext3 and ext4? |

How to diagnose very slow pagefile Wow! I'm shocked to see that large number of fragments. I think that's your biggest issue right now. Defragment pagefile as soon as possible. I was actually expecting you to have few fragments, but 128! That's in my opinion an enormous number. |
