This worked for me, FF 14.0.1. problem was specifically with stackoverflow.com!

@Bobby. True. I thought maybe someone had run into this and could point me in the right direction. There was an advisory on exim4 december 10 and the problem happened after that. I since apt-get remove --purge exim4 and it has not recurred, but I may have a compromised system, although top looks good and the system behaves well otherwise. Will rebuild asap anyway though.

@bobby: I have lots of python scripts on that machine. XMLRPC servers, FAPWS servers... They've been up for 2 years. Just saw the problem in the last 2 weeks.

The only thing I have running are python scripts (which I wrote) so I know there's nothing like that in them, and a crontab job that looks like this: * * * * * /scripts/allmonitor.py 2>&1 > /dev/null

For those out there thinking this is out of scope, I personally think it would ge great for stackoverflow to have good info on networking.
