comment What are some ways to use my browser, Chrome, as a JavaScript interpreter?
@Wolfpack: I very rarely use extensions with Chrome. It does so much out of the box, that i haven't found the need. There's a Firebug Lite extension that looks like it might be useful at times, but it's nowhere near as good as the real thing in FF, IMO. Particularly since Chrome supports a whole bunch of the functionality without any outside extensions.

comment How Can I Add Unix Commands?
For reference, the stuff in /bin is not "bash commands"; they're just programs that happen to be in one of the directories in $PATH so that bash (or any other shell, for that matter) can find them. The only real "bash commands" are the builtins you can get info on by typing help.

comment recover deleted files c#
Whether an undelete tool will help depends a lot on how long ago the deletion was. Undelete tools can only work with data that hasn't been overwritten yet, and the longer it's been, the greater the chance that the deleted file's clusters have been reused.

comment Renaming files in batch with Unix RENAME
Why ls -1 | while read item rather than for item in *.sam?

+1 for not immediately jumping to regexes. :) But you might want dots around your indel and snp, so paths like blah.stuffindelsomeotherstuff.x don't get changed as well.

comment How do I send a file to a ftp server via command prompt?
Don't forget binary. IIRC ftp uses ASCII mode by default, and that could really mess up things like zip files.

comment How do different Linux distributions handle multiple cores and multi-threading?
I thought the scheduler was part of the kernel. Sure, someone could change it, but that seems like it'd be a lot of work. Distros often have subtly different userspace stuff, but how many actually make a major change to the kernel itself?

comment How can I allow files to be dropped onto a Ruby script in Windows Explorer
I wasn't sure whether it'd always be the same (different Windows versions, 32 vs 64 bit, etc). But i also figured that either way, copy-n-paste would be easier to get right. :)
