comment Moving files from a Windows95 machine to a modern NAS
Well, the browser is irrelevant. There are lots of outdated and abandoned botnet pieces out there. It is true that most worms won't work on Win9x, but it takes only one such infected PC with worm that is still active and trying to spread, to infect you if your computer is directly connected to the 'net.

comment Is there any way to stop VMware server from shutting down a client due to inactivity?
Are you sure it's the server that shutting the client down, and not the client going into standby/hibernate due to inactivity? By default, newly installed Windows will go into standby after x minutes, and VMWare will "pause" such client. So, please define better which clinet is shutting down, and if this is a real OS shutdown or just a "pause".

comment cgroups in CentOS
Cgroups apparently are available in RHEL / CentOS 6.x only, you didn't specify your version. But the information available is sketchy at best, I was unable to find a reasonable howto.

comment What to do with 6.7GB of logs from a http proxy used by someone to initiate attacks?
You cannot "unsee" what you have seen. I wouldn't touch this data, not even look at it, or process it, or copy it... Having links to, for example, child porn, sprinkled on your hard disk is a bad thing if police turns up with a search order one day. You'll have hard time explaining what you were doing exactly.

comment Windows 7, pre-caching large image files
@surfasb: In order to create thumbnails, get image metadata for "details" display in Explorer, etc. files have to be read (sometimes in full) across the network. This will always be slow. So, if his question is "how do I disable thumbnails and display of metadata" there is one answer. If the question is "how do I retain current functionality but speed it up", the answer is quite different. He didn't ask his question, in my opinion.
