I love to program, tinker with things and generally a curious person. My career started with developing DOS TSRs in x86 Assembler. My daily work includes programming in Delphi (Windows), Ruby on Rails (Linux) and Java (Android).

My company Hagel Technologies makes network bandwidth monitor DU Meter and other software. I sometimes write in my blog.

comment Hard drive failure during a move
Hard drives die eventually. When it dies like this (electronics are dead, no response at all), it is usually not a mechanical failure from sudden acceleration (drop). More likely something else, like sudden change in barometric pressure or air humidity, or something else entirely.

comment Can I have both Windows dynamic disk partition and some other non-Windows partition on the same disk?
Thank you, this is interesting. I asked about sharing the physical disk however, e.g. having an exta non-Windows partition on the same disk besides the Windows LDM partition, not accessing Windows dynamic disk partitions from Linux.

comment Can I have both Windows dynamic disk partition and some other non-Windows partition on the same disk?
This is a nice and reasonable advice. However, it does not answer my question.

There is no such thing as "disk being labeled as dynamic". Internally, Windows creates an LDM partition that spans the whole disk. See, for example, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/….

comment Use bluetooth keyboard to access/edit BIOS?
I have two different dongles with WIDCOMM chipsets, and unfortunately they don't work (till OS driver is loaded, that is).

comment Will breaking ICH10R RAID1 (Mirror) retain all data on both disks?
Disk data remains. However, BSOD happens even if RAID is not the boot/system disk, if converted to AHCI. Here's how to fix: support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

Thanks... Unfortunately, I cannot switch to AHCI (I have other RAID1 mirror which I intend to keep, and which is indeed my boot drive).

comment How do I annotate an image?
Well good luck finding what you're looking for... I think that will be tough, and you might consider relaxing your requirements a bit. For example, consider a web service and not a standalone app, like one of these mentioned in nik's answer.

comment Pinpointing hardware issue (green squares on boot)
Are there any other ill effects except for these green rectangles flashing for a second? If not, then it is probably because your video card is not being fully/properly reset during POST, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

comment How can I automatically adjust the affinity of a process after it is started?
I would suggest starting processes with low priority / low I/O priority instead of messing with the affinity, if all you want is to reduce the load during your computer startup. Note that the lower priority will remain set until you change it, same with the affinity of course.

comment Using traffic shaping, is limiting download traffic helpful or harmful?
Once you start dropping packets, other end of your TCP connection will slow down, and the big buffers at your ISP's network equipment will not be filled up. Therefore, other traffic will have a chance to reach you in time (and not be queued at the end of your ISP's large buffers). Hope this clarifies the issue... Please visit the Wikipedia page I linked for more info.

comment HDMI audio disappears when the TV is turned off and on
Maybe the default audio device is switched to an on-board audio, if you have it. Try disabling all other audio devices in device manager.

comment How can I get windows to release an IPv6 address
Seems like your command prompt is not elevated, thus the errors. Moreover, you can only release addresses assigned by DHCP, are you sure your IPv6 address is assigned in this way (most are auto-configured and not assigned via DHCP).

comment CMD - Prevent user copy files in a directory to somewhere else
If they can read them, they can copy them, period. Copying is an act of reading a file, creating a new file somewhere else and writing the contents you just read into that new file.

Does the user have a need to access (read) these files at all?
