I really do want to ask why you did that, even though you say I shouldn't

comment extract file permissions for files and folders to a file
interesting. I found a flag "/save" which formats it very wierd. Do you know how to interpret that information? I got something like this: D:AI(A;ID;FA;;;BA)(A;ID;FA;;;SY)(A;ID;0x1200a9;;;BU)(A;ID;0x1301bf;;;AU)

I guess I'll have to download that. Is there some built-in way?

comment How to restore the Process Name column in Process Explorer?
exactly, that is what's so confusing :P did you really edit this yourself in the register and then ask it here or did procexpl just wake up one day and say "hey, I think you can cope without the processname, I'll fix it for ya'" :) Just wondering if you made some special action when it disappeared I guess, it is a strange bug/feature

I'm not sure if this would be logged, but have you checked the system event log for any updates around hibernation?

@nbolton: sweet :) I think that the author of the Insomniac program made the source available, so you could study that as well.

well then. that is another question. but now I understand what you mean. I do not know the reason for this, but I'll see if I can find anything. anyway, the reason why ` \ ` is there is because in between "" the ` \ ` sign is interpreted as a special character.

You could write an app that stops it: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa376876(VS.85).aspx

comment Using backslash to escape characters in cmd.exe
I'm having a hard time understanding what you are after.. sorry.. But it is great that you understand the main function. In java it is the same thing, the String[] args are interpreted the same way in java as in C++. and all between "" will be one argument. And no, the arguments are passed in separately (divided by spaces), not as one. The program does not have to divide them itself. I am not familiar with cmd2. Could you rephrase your findings in your answer to make it more clear? The best I think would be if you write "Why is this row <something> interpreted like this <> and not like this <>"

@barlop: Don't think of cmd as the argument to runas, because it is not. The argument to runas is cmd /k dir \"%userprofile%\". I don't have the time now, but give me a couple of hours and I should be able to explain a simple C++ program to you and how those programs interpret arguments. I think it would be more clear. So, answer bound to change

use another of Microsofts usability programs, the screen magnifier. It can be found by hitting win+u. That would make it visible

the pcguide.com guide would work nicely, no need to download programs for this. +1 for that solution (and it does work)
