comment Can Conky remain always visible alongside other windows?
Thanks @terdon. I have own_window_type normal still in my conkyrc, changing the hints to include "above" was the trick that did it for me!

comment New Build, asrock h87,-itx no video output
Okay, I'm starting to run out of suggestions. Maybe reset the CMOS (unplug PSU, pull motherboard battery out for a couple of minutes). That sometimes fixes things. Is the PSU new? Do you have an alternate power supply you could try? Starting to think one of the new parts may be DOA...

I take it you don't get any video at all -- not even the post screen? Do the fans spin up? Has the motherboard been mounted on the risers (no chance of shorting against the case?). Is RAM seated properly (firmly clicked in place)? Unplug all USB/SATA/PCIe devices (if there are any) and see if you can get to post.

Hmm...yeah, the board doesn't seem to have an internal speaker connector. :(

What is the power supply make/model? Are all parts new? Is the 4-pin power connector on the motherboard (near the CPU) connected, as well as the 24-pin? Is the CPU fan plugged into the CPU_FAN connector? Can you put a (clear) pic of your setup on imgur and link to it? If your case came with an onboard speaker, plug that it so you can hear any error beeps while the machine is booting.

comment USB keyboards keep disconnecting and reconnecting
When you say "built a whole new box", was it all completely different parts (that is, did you reuse, say, the motherboard?). Does the problem occur when running from a Linux Live distro (wasn't quite clear what "installing a different OS" means)?

comment How can I smb share a Windows folder so it is accessible to Linux machines?
What distro are you running? In *buntus, the file managers tend to come with "connect to network" option where the shares on Windows machine show up automatically.

comment Allow only certain fonts in Firefox
Such a feature would also be a great privacy feature if it allowed you to choose the list of fonts JS could discover (as per Why is there so much information in the font list? from the Panopticlick FAQ: panopticlick.eff.org/faq.php)

comment Is this a graphics card failure?
Yeah, doesn't sound good Alexander. It is pretty unlikely that both RAM sticks would fail at once -- if you want to confirm though before buying a new mobo, try one of them in a different computer.

comment Is there a way to tell which display manager by Linux desktop is running?
Try grepping for /usr/bin/X, that may include the DM in its command-line. Also, this may help: askubuntu.com/questions/72549/…

Have you tried this: petefreitag.com/item/531.cfm? Specifically, this bit: svn co svn+ssh://<path to repo>

comment Nvidia system freeze while loading / unloading DirectX
You can send it back, but if there are no problems they may charge you (or at least make you pay for the freight). Can you try in another computer first?

The Z87 Pro has two x16 slots and one x4, so there's at least one to try. Good luck!

Do you have a HDD? If so, try installing the game on that, in case the SSD has a fault. What PSU do you have? Can you try your GTX770 in another computer? Have you tried the GPU in a different PCIx16 slot on the motherboard?

comment Is ATI Radeon HD 7870 compatible with GA-G41M-Combo motherboard?
I'd only done a quick search, found this: teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=153319 (search for "bound" in there). It talks about how little GPU power is needed. (Disclaimer: I don't play SC2, so no first-hand knowledge, I just did the google thing :)

comment Checking in the code using tortoiseSVN that is checked out by tortoiseSVN 1.8
I'm pretty sure the client-side format changed between SVN 1.6 and 1.7, making them incompatible.
