I am a student studying information technology and hoping to work in the IT industry in the future.

I am most comfortable in any language with curly braces. I would most like to explore web and embeded device development

comment Phone tethered to laptop for internet and then send internet out wirelessly
I can attest to this. I've seen a good number of phones fail to see ad-hoc wireless networks.

This probably belongs on either meta.SO if the problem is specific to SO, or meta.SE

comment Word 2010 Template is humongous
Some metadata is non-removable but newer versions of Word have an Insspect Document feature (accessible from the Info tab of the File menu) I'm not sure how big of an impact it'll have though.

comment Word 2010 Template is humongous
The size of the file is really going to depend on what's in the file in terms of both content (things you can see: text, images, custom styles, etc) and metadata (information held in the file, about the file (title, author, etc etc)

comment Focus IE window in powershell
This is probably more on-topic at Stack Overflow as SO is more focused on code-related questions. I've provided an answer below, because the question is otherwise valid. and flagged for migration to Stack Overflow

comment Can the IT man see my connections to the internet if i use a VPN?
It's possible. While a VPN connection uses encryption to protect data in transit, network administrators might still be able to see that encrypted tunnel being established if they're monitoring your connection. It depends to a large extent on both the type of VPN used and the extent of monitoring. Nothing is completely secure.

comment Can Windows 8's Internet connection be shared over Wi-Fi (making PC a hotspot)?
Looking back over your post again. In your screenshot the "Allow other network users to connect through this connection" checkbox was not ticked, it must be, otherwise Internet Connection Sharing is not active, it should checked.

comment Can Windows 8's Internet connection be shared over Wi-Fi (making PC a hotspot)?
I've not seen that before, normally an IP address is assigned by DHCP as part of Internet Connection Sharing. I can only suggest that you verify that Internet Connection Sharing is setup so that D-Link mobile broadband adapter is shared with your wireless adapter and that the phone is setup to get an address via DHCP.

comment Is there a way to register a new @live.com email address for Outlook.com?
I don't know for certain whether it's now impossible to register @live.com addresses, but the Windows Live brand has been retired and Mail transitioned to Outlook, so it wouldn't surprise me if they weren't accepting new registrations.
