comment How do I prevent Windows from rebooting ever?
Just disable automatic updates. Most corporate LANs are not set up to automatically install updates from Microsoft, so why should you? Then you can run it once a month say.

comment How to create iso dvd image for use with Mac OS X's “Disk Utility”?
. After all my scouring of the net, it turns out it is as simple as this: 1.Shove blank dvd in side of mac 2.Right click folder containing files you want to preserve and select "burn dvd" 3.Lol 4.Cups of tea and medals all round! .

It's not a duplicate - I want to know how to use Disk Utility to create an ISO DVD. I don't want to know an alternative for Nero and I don't want to buy Toast (before I bought a mac folks kept telling me "It has all the software you need built in!") I want to know how to use the 'built in' facility to create a globally accepted standard DVD. p.s Burn sucks - blew up the first time I used it. :)

the bit about 'journaled' is the type of thing that is very useful as I want it to be readable by anything i.e. ISO standard and not some no-doubt-more-efficient apple proprietary one

comment How to stop OS X from switching input method (keyboard layout) automatically?
Actually it appears to have both. Single global setting and setting per app. The problem lies in the fact that once you set it to a language which is not supported by all apps, then it will switch to the other one. It sucks, seriously.

I tried topOCR with another doc and it is useless. Tildas and stuff all over the place [this was from a doc scanned at 600dpi]. Also I am undergoing the pain of switching from windows to mac and topocr is windows only.

When I switch to an app that does not support the "British - Microsoft" setting i.e. automatically assumes "Swiss German", it appears to switch it for ALL applications. I don't understand why not all applications support 'another' language and I also don't understand why this forces the other applications to pick up the change.

Have also just noticed that for some applications, it is not even possible to select "British - Microsoft" e.g. Preview, QuickTimeplayer. Other applications like firefox and itunes work fine (although they do still keep switching back to swiss german)
