comment Remote Desktop: can't connect to remote computer
I'm embarrassed to admit that I got this problem, then realized I hadn't clicked the "apply" button after "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" had been checked...after I did then it worked.

comment Using git-gui on Mac with Homebrew
NB that you need git installed from hombrew (not the default) if you want git gui to work at all. For me, after doing that, git gui just works, no extra work needed... (Just run "git gui") FWIW

Appears that's a "win-sshfs" that might work: digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/… though appears unmaintained now

comment SSL certificate verification failure in Chrome, Heartbleed bug?
This was my problem as well--you can tell if this is "your" problem by [ironically] browsing to the same site using firefox, if it shows a message like "The certificate will not be valid until 07/30/2014 05:55 AM. The current time is 07/17/2014 07:54 PM." then your time is out of date.

nice, I think -q is the key here, somehow not having it can require diff to put the whole file (or at least whole lines) into memory...

I wasn't able to figure out how to adjust a single stream, however I did have success adjusting an output device "to 480%" via paman -> devices tab -> select a sink -> "properties" button -> drag volume slider to right.

comment Are there netcat-like tools for Windows which are not quarantined as malware?
unfortunately "ncat" (the command line executable provided by the nmap distro) doesn't seem to be a drop in replacement for the unix "nc" command [different command line parameters] <sigh>...you have to get a true "netcat" somewhere else [or use cygwin]
