If it consumes electricity, chances are good that I worked with it or at least know about it. SysAdmin and Programmer, worked with Basic and PHP as well as with Delphi. My current bread and butter is C# and JavaScript. I like to do Commodore 64 development as a hobby and dabbled in XNA for prototyping purposes.

I'm also on Twitter and I have a blog.

comment Converting DisplayPort and/or HDMI to DVI-D?
USB is only used for Power (so it's invisible to the system), it's the normal sleep or turn off monitor mode that seems to cause issues. Not using hibernate, but if I leave my PC for 30 minutes or so, My screen turns black, shows picture, turns black, shows picture. I might put it into a USB/110V Wallplug. The issues seems to be (from reviews) that they draw too much power. I'm running a 24" at 1920x1200.

comment Best way to run 6 Monitor setup?
@Molly No, you can't use 2x DVI and 1x HDMI as the cards only come with 2 TDMS. One of the 3 monitors has to be a Display Port monitor (As DisplayPort does not require a TDMS signal, unlike HDMI or DVI), or you'll need an active DisplayPort => DVI Adapter which costs about $100. I just found that out the hard way :( I don't know if there are cards that can drive HDMI and 2x DVI, but most apparently can't. So in doubt, double and triple check.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I want to print out or copy the outline, so that I can annotate it. Firebug doesn't seem to be able to do that :(

comment Am I secure from network monitoring software if HTTPS is used?
Also keep in mind that in a corporate network, the company controls not just one piece (the wire over which the data goes) but also your PC. Normally, your browser would go into Panic Mode (and I mean that literally, at least Chrome makes a very scary warning message: noahsmark.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/chrome-ssl-error.png), but as the company controls it they can just issue a policy to make the browser trust it's certificate server. But as said: Check the certificate and if it's internal, do your HTTPS business at home :)

@senthil The point of HTTPS is to encrypt traffic and to identify the participants. Anyone who controls the line can theoretically be a man in the middle (hence it is even called man-in-the-middle attack) but unlike unencrypted HTTP, this will not stay undetected. As said, check the certificate and who issued it. There is no way usually to fake a certificate (There was a bug in some Debian Linux versions that made it possible to fake certs, but that was so far an isolated incident).

You can :) Set it to small icons, unlock in and drag it so it's 2 levels high.

If I already know which Window I want, why do I have to search? Why do I have to open the browser window and then search the tab there? If everything is exactly one button in the taskbar, it's very easy and quick to go to any open application without having to actively think about it. Also, unlike ALT+TAB, buttons in the Taskbar don't change positions.

@Ivo the problem is that I want to reach any open Window with exactly 1 mouse click. That way, I don't have to think and lose my concentration when I need to switch an app. If I have an open window, I memorize it's position in the taskbar automatically. So if I need to open it, I just click it without losing focus on whatever else I am doing.

IE6 won't run on Windows 7 and does not support transparent PNGs, so it's not really an option :) It's still faster and more usable than IE7 and 8 of course.

True, normally Proxies just pass through HTTPS traffic as they can't do anything with it, and I do not know if HTTPS-Inspection is on the rise, but I've seen it happen so I just thought I point out the possibility.
