comment Had almost 300 GB worth of files with random names on my computer, and now they are gone. Any idea what they were and where they went?
Windows' temp files are likely to be created in %TEMP%. Since the problem occurred more than once, don't think it would be any leftovers, especially over 300GB.

comment Cannot connect to android.com / youtube.com with router on
I don't know your ISP, but I tend to change DNS Servers as soon as I get a new router, since I have had problems with my ISP's DNS server going down somewhat frequently. If you are wondering why entering the IP Addresses in your browser led you to Google's homepage, it may be because they redirect your requests depending on the domain you are trying to access, and since you didn't give any domain, it redirects to the mothership. :)

comment Wake on Lan works from LAN but not WAN
For future reference: in @steampowered's case it worked because the NIC is configured to boot the computer in the event of ANY package being received in the interface. Depending of your router configuration (port forwards, etc), you may experience having your computer being started in undesired times.

@SarveshLad I suggest you to point that it start happening when you got your new router, it may help giving more accurate answers. Add the specs of both of your WiFi cards too.

comment What's the advantage of 802.11n if 802.11g is still faster than your ISP's connection?
As for my own question here superuser.com/questions/166333/… , in my personal experience on a 20Mbps connection, switching from 802.11g to 802.11n allowed me to max-out my connection. I advise you to try your 25Mbps connection on 802.11g and see if you get the same results I got.

comment Laptop Locking Up
If the tech support is going to have a look at your laptop, ask him to clean up the fans of your computer. Heat could cause this kind of lock-up too, and in the worst case, even damage vital components of your system.

comment Power supply in custom computer
a bit off-topic on the question... but 3x4GB or 3x2GB of a good DDR3 memory would be more suitable to a i7, right? I got 3x2GB on a i7 950. on-topic: go for a 1000W PSU, don't think it is worth saving 60 bucks on this kind of configuration.
