comment Extract and replace images form a PDF file
To extract images (but not replace them) you can use pdfimages; for replacing, I found this link How to replace images in a PDF? | RubyPDF Blog, which has Java and C# code, but I'm not sure if it uses a specific library or something....

comment Have Firefox prompt whether to open PDF in browser, or in external application, or for saving?
Thanks, @Ramhound - I'll give that a try; but wouldn't that open Firefox in a new instance? I'd like the PDF opened as preview in the same instance, when I choose to do so ... EDIT: just tried it, opens in new instance (even asks for a profile choice at start with --safe-mode) - this is bound to get recursive without ever opening the PDF.

comment Have Firefox prompt whether to open PDF in browser, or in external application, or for saving?
Thanks @Ramhound - but if Firefox built-in PDF viewer is set as default application, then I get no prompt whatsoever; the PDF just opens directly in Firefox when I click on it, without asking me anything in a prompt first? And what I want is to be prompted about it...

comment How to find which files and folders were deleted recently in Linux?
ravi, @SampoSarrala - is this applicable if I want to watch files in the / root, taking into account mounting/unmounting drives? I would guess, in that case the only thing viable for keeping a deletion log would be a kernel module that would hook into unlink (see stackoverflow.com/questions/8588386/…); also man inotifywait states: "--recursive: Warning: ... this option while watching ... a large tree, it may take quite a while. Also, ..., the maximum amount of inotify watches per user will be reached. The default maximum is 8192;"

comment How can I make ffmpeg be quieter/less verbose?
Just a note: on my ancient ffmpeg I get "ffmpeg: unrecognized option" for -nostats and -hide_banner; however -v 0 disables progress output (while -loglevel quiet doesn't); I also tried -vstats_file /dev/null, but that doesn't influence the stderr output.

comment How to convert a multi-page PDF file to PNG files, with one PNG file per page of the PDF document?
Just a note: ImageMagick's convert does use Ghostscript when rendering .pdfs, see stackoverflow.com/questions/14705727/…

comment ffmpeg - Create a video from image frame with a start and a cout
I appreciate this command, because it works with old ffmpeg which I have to use right now; the only thing is -t is not "end time", man ffmpeg states it is "duration"; so end time would be start+duration. Cheers!

comment Continuously re-execute a command when it finishes in Bash
Thanks for this, I was looking for it, especially since yourcommand; !! does not actually work with commands on the same line, however, !# seems to do. Cheers!
