comment Clock is standing still when the computer is turned off
Ok. In the meantime, I also played around with the BIOS, setting the time there, reload Defaults etc, however without any good. I probably really have to open the computer and remove the battery. I will give further feedback when it's done.

Yes, I'm aware of this. However, I dont want to enter every time to the time settings if I startup the computer. That's why I want to automate it, probably with the task planer.

I have checked the time server settings and indeed, the selected server had timeouts and could not be used to sync. I changed the setting to a functional time server. However, today the clock has not been adjusted. Probably, the sync frequency of windows is too low. While the weekend (its my home computer), I will play a little around and look, if I can force the sync at the computer startup. Maybe this will help. I will post my results next week.

I don't know these products, I only have observed such problems on computers with more than one antivirus. Important is the question, if these apps also have real-time protection (on access-scan, autoprotect...). These functions are deeply hooked within windows and if there are multiple products, they could (probably will) interfere.

+1 Thanks for you answer. Are you sure about the creation date? I have tested this some minutes ago on a Win7 machine and the creation date has been changed, only the change date seemed to be stable.

comment Efficiently change a single file extension in Windows
+1 Thanks for your suggestions. I hoped for a hidden operation, somthing with holding the control-key down or so. I assume I will use the command-version. Downloading an app or starting one from an usb-key is not an option. I will wait some time if someone unexpectedly will post a nice solution and if not I will accept your answer. Thanks.

Yes, I disliked it also at the time MS has begun to set this as the default. But now I live with it. However I don't talk about my computer. I talk about computers of my clients. Sometimes I have to do quickly change an extension of a file of one of their computers. And they absolutey don't like it, if I disable this feature. F2 does not work.

comment .net Applications hang for several seconds
@James: About 50 computers. The computers are IMO not very well installed. I'm not aware of other .net-programms installed that are used frequently. Therefore I can not say if other .net programs have problems. But for the office products, no such behaviour can be observed. Interesting is, that the effect is not always equal strong. There are times, the problem quasi not occurs. It seems to depend on network traffic, but at least for one of theses apps, there is no network operation done - Only at app startup and closing and this is not a problem.

Thanks for the answer. I would give you +1 but I can not because I don't have the points necessary. The problem is, that we don't have admin rights on these clients. Therefore profiling is not possible (as far as I know).

comment Winword using one core 100 %
We have a permament active AV and all OS-and Application-patches were installed as they come out. Outlook uses word as editor and that's why it is started in am svchost at boot time. This seems to be ok, because I read an article at support.microsoft.com stating this. The question is, why it consumes such a amount of resources.

Does winword also open files if it runs in the background as outlook-editor?
