comment What could cause a computer to boot from a secondary SATA drive instead of the primary?
Do motherboards still have jumpers? I haven't had to user jumpers , especially on a motherboard, for quite a while. Although if your motherboard has jumpers, it could affect which drive is being used for booting.

comment Collaborate over a LAN
This pretty much sums it up, except that for beginner, really small projects (2 people in this case, only HTML) I would recommend subversion with TortoiseSVN. I find that it's easier for people to grasp, and the nice explorer extensions mean that you don't have to worry about using the command line.

comment USB and Ethernet, which is more CPU intensive?
Just today I noticed that transferring a bunch of files over my laptop's WiFi connection consumed a considerable amount of CPU (about 10%). Which although mean I could still easily saturate the connection, there's still quite a bit of overhead with networking. Although this was Wifi, So maybe my CPU was helping out in some of the encryption.

comment New laptop running extremely slow?
Try running the "Windows Experience Index" to see how your machine scores. Start Menu -> Right click on "Computer" -> Properties. You shoudl see it there. This will give you a score for each major component of your computer, and will give you an overall score. Compare your scores to other machines of the same specs.

comment Fried graphics card, how to proceed?
Do you have SSH or any other servers installed? Also, hard to believe you can fry a graphics card simply by not plugging it in.

comment Streaming video in Virtualbox jumpy
You will probably experience the same problem with any video, streaming or not. It seems like quite a lot of work for an Atom processor. Perhaps you should dual boot for watching movies in Netflix.

comment Does dual-booting an OS require a dual-core processor?
+1 for the first sentence. It's completely true. People should not state things as fact (like requiring dual core for dual boot) if it isn't a fact. I don't even know where someone would have come up with the idea.

I'm submitting a ticket to Western Digital about it. 15 hours does seem excessively long.

comment Will this hardware handle Netflix View Instantly?
For $135, you can buy a Wii, and it comes with Mario Kart. And it supports Netflix Instant. Although not in HD. Also, you could get an XBox 360 for $199, which I believe does support Netflix Live in HD. These options aren't the same as a PC, but are quite a bit friendlier when used on your TV.
