comment how do I install three linux based web servers in one machine?
Ewww - you don't need to install 3 separate VMs to use a separate IP on each web server! The IP address used by the web server will be specified in the configuration file, such as by the Apache Listen directive.

That's because no sysadmin would ever google that.

comment Custom system restore DVD?
Clearly it's AIX - he wants to clone an LPAR (partition) and then do a system restore.

What Daniel said. Plus, instead of guessing, use the performance monitors to figure it out.

What's the device? Can you reconfig dhcp on it? Or is this enough?

comment Prevent poweroff on Debian when the physical power button is pressed
(I know this is meta, but to the people voting for close - this is a great example of a question that can be rewritten to be more generic and applicable to anyone running a Linux server.)

The mem=???? parameter is one time only if you add it at the boot prompt. To make it permanent, add it to grub.conf or lilo.conf

While not solving my problem, I've started using Handbrake and using the x.264 encoding. It's working well.

/agreed - asking the customer to blow away their entire machine is ridiculous. Cue the story about the technician that would not support an install wtih any changes made to it...

Nope, the new terminal is just inheriting the uid/gids from what started it (probably your window manager)

Oh, I've been writing & building RPMs for a while, I'm good. :) BTW, this particular LD_ASSUME_KERNEL would only apply on any 2.4.x kernels.

The data is already ripped to disk and the data is good. As I noted afterwards, I can run it twice and have it hang once.

-o /dev/null is correct for the first pass of a multi-pass encode. Besides, the problem isn't that no output is produced.
