comment Avoid “The source conrol provider associated… could not be found” message in SSMS
Visual Studio does not allow me to choose this option, even though I've used Git before. Something else is going on.

comment What is it that makes Windows require constant rebooting while Linux does not?
Well, actually... 1. This is less of a problem with Windows today than it used to be. When it does happen, it's usually because someone forgot to close an application that's locking some files that Windows needs to update, and rather than failing the install, Windows simply registers those file changes for the next boot. 2. A cold restart on my current machine running Windows 10 takes about 15 seconds, half of which is POST time.

comment Making Windows reboot 'clean' image
Use Norton Ghost or something similar to create a disk image of your clean, pristine disk. When you're done testing, use Norton Ghost to roll it back to the pristine version.

comment Is liquid cooling necessary for high CPU performance over extended periods?
@JamieWilletts: But not the quad cores. My Intel® Core™ i7-4790K with a stock cooler immediately starts thermal-cycling if I try to overclock it. An after-market cooler seems like a necessity.

This worked for me on Windows 8.1. Unchecking "Animations in the taskbar" did not.

comment Is SCSI asynchronous IO really slower than synchronous one?
I think you'd better be more specific about the problem you're trying to solve, because in the absence of that, this is merely a curiosity question. That description is very specific, and in so many words it says that the synchronous protocol is more efficient because it was designed in a way that makes it more efficient. Can you explain how a better understanding of "more efficient" helps you solve the problem you're having?

comment Is SCSI asynchronous IO really slower than synchronous one?
Did you read the post you linked? It says "the asynchronous transfer option waits for each byte to be transferred before it is acknowledged. With synchronous protocol, the device sending the data is allowed to get ahead of the device receiving the data by a number of bytes (called the offset). The offset is negotiated between the initiator and the target some time prior to the transfer beginning. The synchronous protocol is considerably more efficient and therefore faster than asynchronous."
