comment Is liquid cooling necessary for high CPU performance over extended periods?
@JamieWilletts: But not the quad cores. My Intel® Core™ i7-4790K with a stock cooler immediately starts thermal-cycling if I try to overclock it. An after-market cooler seems like a necessity.

This worked for me on Windows 8.1. Unchecking "Animations in the taskbar" did not.

comment Is SCSI asynchronous IO really slower than synchronous one?
I think you'd better be more specific about the problem you're trying to solve, because in the absence of that, this is merely a curiosity question. That description is very specific, and in so many words it says that the synchronous protocol is more efficient because it was designed in a way that makes it more efficient. Can you explain how a better understanding of "more efficient" helps you solve the problem you're having?

comment Is SCSI asynchronous IO really slower than synchronous one?
Did you read the post you linked? It says "the asynchronous transfer option waits for each byte to be transferred before it is acknowledged. With synchronous protocol, the device sending the data is allowed to get ahead of the device receiving the data by a number of bytes (called the offset). The offset is negotiated between the initiator and the target some time prior to the transfer beginning. The synchronous protocol is considerably more efficient and therefore faster than asynchronous."

No, really. Look at the Google Search I just linked. There's a half-dozen pages there that match your description.

comment Monitor refresh rate?
Your answer is here: programmers.stackexchange.com/a/103599 The viewing angle of a monitor is much shallower in its vertical dimension, and this causes your eyes to see two slightly different images when you rotate the monitor vertically.
