comment Use symlink to provide access to a specific file under a restricted directory
Bear in mind the hard link needs to be on the same file system as the linked file, which may or may not be an issue if you have your own /home filesystem

comment One time BitTorrent download
"since it tends to be mostly used for illegal download of movies and software". This sentence always irks me, in the same way as cars are "used for drive bys". Currently pirates like to use torrents, but that doesn't have to mean torrents are for pirates. I agree torrents are in the news alot, but it gets such a bad press over and above anything it deserves.

Had some progress. Found a ubuntu 10.10 cd in the bin (literally), and booting live from that the light works again. Its a realtek 8187B, and shows up on lsusb, not lspci. Now to get that working on fedora !

Virtual users does seem like the solution though, try having a search around for some beginners guides.

comment how to create dual network from same modem
The equipment in use is (very likely) not capable of doing what is needed to segregate the data into two distinct networks. There's lots of workarounds and solutions, but they'll mostly involve more kit. The best solution would be a second access point on another wifi channel, and the firewall built into the router in use currently. Another workaround would be wifi station isolation, if it even supports that. If it was my private traffic though I'd want it on its own device, and not wifi, either.
