comment What does the %% signs in batch file refer to and where are they read from
Windows uses Set. Linux uses setenv or export for the same thing. So it's for creating an environment variable in the current shell and all shells spawned by it. And it's not permanent.

if you are asking about %% then you should give an example. 'cos your examples involve %blah%

comment Ethical way to get past a proxy server?
Ethical isn't really a computer qiestion.. it's a philosophical question.. you have to look at what their intentions are.. how would they feel if they knew you had evaded it, how would it affect them if you did evade it, how would it effect you too, and others - family, friends, strangers. Any network is different in terms of the ethics, it'll have different administration.. It's possible that people can be fired for evading network security even harmlessly. It can be a policy.

comment Execute an SSH command with the Apache2 www-data user
I know some ssh but the rest is over my head.. nevertheless, i'll suggest this.. if it's the case that your ssh command works fine but just not when run from php then you should show the php.. and then maybe it's more of a php related q. And you could try simplifying your command to echo asdf>~/a.a to see if that works

comment Editing HTML source code with Google Chrome
@Benjamin Are you serious about the +100 (i.e. did you give him extra votes in your local copy obviously not going to have an effect on the site itself but still), that would be interesting.. How did you do that? or were you making a very bad and misleading joke?

what did you use to set a breakpoint on shell32!RegenerateUserEnvironment? whatever it is, it sounds like it might be an even more powerful tool than sysinternals process monitor.

comment Is there a usb drive that can be shared with two computers?
@YisroelTech I guess there is a NAS built into the KVM Switch. OP- Some Routers have that too.

comment Is there a usb drive that can be shared with two computers?
What might be close to a dual port USB.. would be a computer between you and the client's machine, call it CompX, and CompX can have a hard drive attached that both computers can access. compX could be a raspberry pi.. and essentially a NAS device.

I guess technically if two computers are connected then they're networked / on the same network. Also if both computers can access the internet then you're both on the same network "the internet". You might be able to make a little subnetwork of you and the laptop, within your client's LAN. Bear in mind that even a USB stick is kind of a network with you and your usb stick as a cable.. some call it sneakernet.

@whs err, ethernet cable or more appropriate term, cat5 cable, doesn't have to be for computers that are near... they may be far, and there is such a thing as ethernet over mains

comment Cannot view dates of emails(no date field), in my CSV file exported from MS Outlook
@geneorama answers have to be answers. also, I can't make sense of your comment. saying "Since the .pst file can only be opened by Outlook, the date is not any more accessible in a .pst format." <--- I never said that the date is more accessible within the pst file than within outlook (whatever that might mean). And anyhow, it's not just outlook that can open pst files. Program to recover outlook mail can too

comment piping command output to text files not working
I can't imagine any option within cmd itself. There is a color command but to link it to stdout and stderr, I doubt.. so maybe nextofwindows.com/… though even there I doubt it, though I haven't really used the alternatives much, but it'd be a damn good feature if it was there.

notice that dir sfdsff so as to give a file not found, will need 2>a too.

so adb>a still dumps the output of adb, you want adb 2>a
