just tried it, it wasn't too involved at all (I'm already a AutoHotkey user). It does exactly what it's supposed to: Toggling the wireless card. This has the disadvantage that when re-enabling, the card needs to re-establish its connection to the network, which takes about 20 seconds. I was hoping for a more basic software solution that would simply block all traffic from ever reaching the card. In the meantime, this will do quite nicely, thanks!

The files that stayed were on the desktop. It was a fresh install, so I doubt there would be any virus.

No, that couldn't be it. Only shortcuts and executables are gone; the rest of my files remained intact.

@Shinrai - As far as I can remember, there was no such option on any of those installers. And in any case, I was always using the same user account!

Do you mean that installing programs as administrator puts them in the hidden Administrator account only?!

I don't understand - if I always log on with the same account that has administrator privileges, why shouldn't my applications and shortcuts persist after rebooting?
