comment If I reboot windows while a third-party process has a file locked, will the lock be automatically released?
Locks are held in memory while the OS is running, not by flagging the files on disk in any way. So all locks owned nyba process are automatically released when that process quits.

comment Is there a way to fix a good signal—but no speed—on my long distance Wi-Fi?
Do you only have an "amplified" USB adaptor on your end? IMHO, you should have a long-range WiFi link consisting of two dedicated adaptors/routers with directional antennas.

comment Emulating an older OS to use printer on windows 7
I was under the impression that in Windows the "server" PC only provides the connection to the printer while the "client" PC does all the generation of data for the printer.

comment How to make a computer not detect flash drive?
Which USB drivers? All? Then other USB devices won't work. @Zaroth's solution is much better, and more descriptive than a general "disable the drivers".

You don't need to configure the IP address in Apache, just port number is enough.

comment Can I boot up a virtual machine natively?
Why not partition your drive in 3, dual-boot two copies of the same OS but keep all your documents on the third partition?

comment Apache 2.0 - Disabling the HTTP TRACE and TRACK methods
Yes: if you don't install (m)any modules you limit Apache's capabilities. Thoroughly check the documentation of the modules that you do install.

comment Apache 2.0 - Disabling the HTTP TRACE and TRACK methods
Please let us know your findings! I run a few public Apache servers and am considering locking them down further. For example, I only enable the modules I really need (which is only about 6 or 7).

comment Apache 2.0 - Disabling the HTTP TRACE and TRACK methods
No idea. I'm not sure if it works, but maybe you can use curl -X TRACK to test whether Apache even responds to TRACK at all without any config? See blogs.plexibus.com/2009/01/15/rest-esting-with-curl for info on using CURL to test other HTTP methods.

comment Cisco vpnclient in Linux embedded device causes kernel oops
Which "embedded device" are we talking about here? Has the manufacturer made their version of Linux available to download (as they are required to under the GPL)? They may/probably have patched the kernel in a number of ways requiring you to compile your module against their patched source.

I don't see this in the man page for rcS on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (the current and latest version).

It's /etc/default/rcS on my Ubuntu systems. I've updated the original answer to reflect that.

comment How to Maintain a small differential Virtualbox hard drive
You say that you "don't trust DropBox differential synchronization to be very effective". Have you actually tested it?
