I'm currently a Java programmer. I am doing high-performance server work, Swing client work, and game design. I've developed in multiple languages on multiple platforms. I've worked seriously in the past with PHP, ASP, Unix C/C++, MS SQL Server, and MySQL.

I take a very direct approach to programming. I don't bow to convention simply because it is. Remember that DOS was a standard at one point. Remember that Windows still is a standard. Does it work, yes, I suppose, most of the time it does. I would build it much differently.

comment How Can I Change the Icon on Outlook 2013?
This works for me too. I believe that the reason there is a problem here is because Outlook changes the icon based on mail status. It uses the change in icon to notify the user of new mail, probably among other things. Once I set the icon to something else, this functionality is obviously lost.

I am able to change the icon for Windows Media Player on my taskbar, but not the one for Lync, Outlook, or Word. This seems to be a problem with Office 2013. Maybe it has something to do with the way the shortcut was created? I notice the "Target" field does not have a valid path in it - it just says "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013".

I cannot +1 this answer again, so please take this great compliment. I've been here before, and I'm here again.

I found it easy to go into screen resolution and disconnect the given monitor. When the resolution changes, I pick "Revert" and go back the way it was, then cancel out of the window. Easy way to reset the desktop window manager as necessary. Thanks, @280Z28!

-1 Don't tell us it's bad to do this. I need to do it too for a line chart. Same problem, same question.

-1 I need to do this as well. This is not an answer, it's a lecture.

I do not know if I have tried mstsc with the /multimon option also. I will try that tonight when I am at home.

You realize that I have no problem with the remote desktop connection itself, right? I have no problem connecting, and it uses all four monitors for the remote desktop. The problem is that it doesn't carry over the positioning of all the windows when I remote in. So they all reset to the upper-left monitor and I have to spread them back out again. It's possible that UltraMon will do this - I have to actually try it to see because it's not listed as a feature.

That's easy enough that I can do it manually. Thanks!

If I update the top-left cell, I can select it and double click on the handle. This copies the formula to all of the cells directly below, which seems like half the problem. This is still a manual solution, though, and I would like an automatic one.

@Darius: I don't need that. I don't have any resolution changes - both workstations have the exact same monitor & resolution configuration. I just want my same windows to open in the same place on the monitors when I remote in.

This link pretty much gives me the same information I already have. It doesn't tell me anything about how to keep my same desktop.

@Darius: Fences doesn't appear to be a Remote Desktop protocol. It looks like icon organization. Does it have this feature where I can run it as a client and a server?

-1 very biased. The best way of restoring a closed tab is to install a mouse gestures addon? Ridiculous.

I can say from experience that this configuration works. As soon as we replaced the card, this worked perfectly. I also have no idea that they are specifically "passive" adapters or not. They just look like regular cables (although less than a foot long).

Ultimately, my problem was that the card was bad. Swapped out the card and voila!
