comment What does “based on” and “derived from” mean in Operating Systems context?
@KorayTugay using similar algorithms (memory management, task scheduling), similar UI paradigms (button positions, icon abstractions, window style), or similar file-system virtualisation.

comment What does “based on” and “derived from” mean in Operating Systems context?
I would think "based on" means "implemented using the same concepts" whereas "derived from" means an actual fork of the code base was taken. This is just speculation though.

comment Is there a way to block system tray icons in windows 7?
It's not beyond the realms of possibility. Such an application could run at an elevated privilege and intercept the windows API calls that register the icon in the system tray.

comment what happens when router memory filled?
Surely that can't be right. Perhaps "whilst operating under normal loads", i.e when there's memory left. What happens when its mac table or routing tables are full and it needs to add another entry? All traffic being processed has some memory overhead; what happens when there's no capacity to deal with these? Connections will start timing out, right?

comment Can I copy multiple files from single folder to multiple folder in windows with batch file?
@BiTinerary Your answer is good, the question was bad. I believe the questions SU is trying to avoid are ones that show no effort: "I know nothing about cmdline. Here's what I'm trying to do. Help" with no evidence that they've tried something themselves. Really, the best response here imo would have been for us to fix the question.

@Oliver Salzburg Why did you remove the tag?

This is a correct answer, so you don't really deserve the downvote. Superuser is not a script-writing service. Of course it's possible to do it in a batch or powershell script, but that's not what OP is asking.

comment Increasing all levels in a list by 1 in a word document
"increase one level further"? Each element is 1 level more-nested? Select all and press tab. Perhaps you're after "start numbering at" "2" / "B"?

comment Can my ISP know if I'm using vpn
Everything has to go via your router and ISP at some point. Either the virtual network is just confusing tracert or you're misinterpreting the results.

How much free space do you have on your drive, and how big is the windows pagefile?

comment What causes average response time into the seconds for an SSD?
Peak I/O requests is just that; it doesn't account for the average time of each request. You could easily have a near-full disk that's being asked for data that's spread across many blocks, due to a high amount of stale pages. Each I/O request for X bytes is now retrieving far far more than X bytes. Plus there's a garbage-collection overhead. This alone doesn't justify the numbers you're seeing though.

comment Why are we getting low download speed as compared to the our bandwidth from browser?
I suggest we move this to serverfault; a better audience for non-home-networking issues. (Have you filed a ticket with your rack host?)

comment Why are we getting low download speed as compared to the our bandwidth from browser?
So the box in question is a rack you are remoted into, and you're downloading to the rack? Is it a virtual machine or dedicated? What linux distro are you using? Is cpu usage perhaps the bottleneck? (Unlikely but plausible if you're in a shared space, check top). Any other users remoted into the machine and using bandwidth?

Have you tested at different types of day (non-peak times)? and with different machines?

comment Taken to random websites when clicking on links
Please explain how the 2 routers operate. Why would turning them off enable you to get a wireless signal? Do you mean you reboot them? Is one of them merely a signal booster?

Probably a good time to change the SSID, so you can immediately tell if you're connecting to the rogue network. Whilst you're at it, make sure you're not using WEP.

comment is it possible to detect that someone has used a VPN after the VPN has been disabled?
I'm not in a position to comment on that really. The answer is "it's possible". As to why they do it, you'd have to ask them.

comment Monitor blinking when I plug an audio jack
Probably not the cable. "Sometimes" is the biggest clue; to me that implies it's some electrical issue rather than an "auto-detect speakers plugged in and mess with display settings" software problem. Does it reproduce twice in short succession? Try grounding the jack first (touch it against metal part of a radiator).
