comment Home network with Windows 7 as router
There's a balance that has to be struck with the number of connections that are initiated by your torrent client. Too few, and your download/upload speeds suffer. Too many, and you start seeing networking issues. Using a PC as a router will not solve this issue. Configure your torrent client properly, see here for some suggestions: techsupportalert.com/content/optimizing-torrent-speed.htm

comment MySQL query builder? (like Access has in Design View)
As far as I'm aware, there's no query browser. MySQL Workbench is indented as a database designer and creates the statements (or database directly) for MySQL.

I'm fairly certain the default chat client that's installed on 9.10 is Pidgin. Either that, or the following ubuntu release.

I've seen it happen with older laptops. Try what Tom suggests below and switch the access point to WPA for testing purposes.

comment Where to download a zip with all Windows 7 updates up to now?
Yes, it supports win7, and it's always had the beta tag, much in the way gmail carried its own perpetual beta tag. I've been using it for years for XP, but not as long for vista and win7. Haven't had a problem with it yet. The only thing to note is that it is sometimes behind a patch cycle or two while things undergo testing, so if you want the absolute latest updates, you may have to hit the MS update site for the last small handful of hotfixes. This isn't unique to this 3rd-party update tool.

What wireless adapter does it have? It didn't seem to be explicitly listed in the manual. I'm wondering if the wireless adapter might not actually support WPA2.
