comment Is is legal to rip DVD in uk? I want to rip DVD to my iPhone
It is now legal but you're not allowed to circumvent the DRM - which means that for the majority of cases, it isn't legal. techdirt.com/articles/20140328/07561926719/…

comment Can I get Pidgin to show idle Facebook mobile users?
This could be solved if Facebook reported mobile users as online through XMPP. However they don't, so they (incorrectly) appear offline.

comment chrome/firefox extension that fixes google search links
I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. To be fair to the author, he explains why it works that way in the comments. I also noticed that he does say that if you copy the URL into a new tab then this addon will intercept the URL and change it to the correct one before the network request is made.

comment Should I trust my laptop manufacturer's website about the maximum RAM my laptop can handle?
@nCoM1kWuDFIjxZNd2zoE: You're right, provided you have certain hardware and support for PAE mode. However it's usually best to make the switch to 64-bit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier

If you do try the memory, make sure you have a 64-bit Operating System installed, otherwise it'll only be able to access around 3GB.

comment How is it that some software knows the correct orientation of an image and other software does not?
As you've noticed, Windows Photo Viewer isn't very good so you might want to check out Picasa (by Google) instead. Although it's a full library management tool, it also comes with a nice fast photo viewer which does actually look at the EXIF data correctly.

comment In windows, is there a way to count the amount of times a string appears in a file
Given that you cannot install anything: (1) Could you use vbscript? (2) Could you find something in that output you could search and replace to break it up into multiple lines? (for example, replace > with > and then a newline)

comment Install Windows 7 on SSD (from a windows machine)
Given that you cannot install from USB or CD/DVD then why not use your already working computer to format and put the installation files onto your SSD? Once you've done that then you can put the SSD back into your new computer and let Windows install itself from the SSD. instructables.com/id/…

comment How does Windows determine how long it takes to do something to a file?
@ValmikyArquissandas: Raymond Chen (a developer on the Windows team at Microsoft) confirms this algorithm in a posting on his blog and and also explains why it can be wrong. blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2004/01/06/47937.aspx

comment Sending emails from script - empty email
Try running the script from outside the directory it is located in (for example, navigate to /tmp and then call it from there with the full path). Does it run fine or generate an error?
