comment How to automate the installation of Microsoft's critical updates?
Did you mean locally on the machine or for the Domain? WSUS should be able to cover this for your workstations if you have access to a domain controller.....

I am running a VM at work for a similar reason and I would tend to agree with it's use. Just make sure you have pleant of RAM (I use 4GB) especially if you don't want to bog down your physical machine.

They might but if it fixes the problem, hooray! You could try taking their email store from the server and exporting it to a pst file. Delete the accounts and then re-create them. Then import the contents of the pst file back in. I haven't had this particular problem before but I have had to re-create users mailboxes in the way I described above. It doesn't take that long..... Good Luck!

comment Windows 7 doesn't connect to mapped drives at start up
We have doen more testing and found that the network eventually connects but it takes a few minutes. This article might alleviate the problem support.microsoft.com/kb/305293 but I have to wait for IT to test it since we have no control over the domain.... I will keep everyone posted! Thanks!

I have read something similar to that as well. I am still actively researching this and I find something I will update this post as well!

comment What is the simplest web server I can operate which also allows configuring mime-types?
I agree will BillThor. John, you are right it can be very complicated, but not out of the box. I have configured web servers in windows where all I had to was run the install file and change a couple of things in the config file and that was it....

comment IE 8 and WIndows 7 - always hangs when I try to print
There seems to be an issue with sharing this printer on a network. Since it is a fairly in expensive HP printer and was not meant to really be networked it has been still causing me issues with IE and printing. (Firefox and anyother Windows program seems to be ok.) Since I really don't want to use Firefox (actually is is my wife who doesn't) and I am too cheap to buy a new printer, I have found the perfect work around and I thought I would share it with you. If you go to iharder.sourceforge.net/current/macosx/winmacprinter

I am pretty sure I got this fixed now. I deleted the printer on the work stations and the server. Reintalled the printer on the server and then reinstaled on all of the workstations. so far so good. I will let you know.

Thanks for getting back. Unfortunately I have tried all of this but to no avail. Here is what else I found out though. When I plug the printer in to my WIndows 7 machine via USB, IE8 prints web pages just fine. There is something with the driver as it is used with Windows 2003 as a print server that is causing this?? Any suggestions would be welcome.
