I run a small IT consultancy out of my comfortable home office, developing custom software solutions for businesses in the construction industry.

Currently focused on Microsoft technologies including .NET, Sharepoint and Office integration. I'm interested in good software design, an evolving development process and keeping up with the endless stream of new technologies.

I also appreciate a decent coffee at one of the many cafes around Melbourne and relaxing with a beer at a local gig.

comment Why cannot administrators delete registry keys when they run regedit as administrators?
It's concerning that you have to ask but: right-click on key, Permissions, Advanced, Owner Tab, Change owner to: Administrators, Check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects, Apply, OK.

comment Is a wireless repeater/range extender the best way to improve signal strength to a device?
@whitequark I'm going to try a couple of high-gain omnis first, as recommended by a colleague. I've also been advised to only use a repeater as a last resort. Since you commented I can't recognise your answer.

comment Remote Desktop Office computer (behind proxy) from home
@Muneeb You say you have no router. That means your server must be acting as a router. This would be probably done with ISA Server or Routing & Remote Access Services (RRAS). You can configure port forwarding using 1 of them.

@Muneeb Are you saying that the server is dual-homed, i.e. has a WAN interface with public IP address and a LAN interface? In that case, are you using ISA or RRAS to route between the two?

I wouldn't recommend it but - configuring port forwarding is usually specific to the router. Remote desktop works on port 3389. You tell your router to direct all internet traffic on a specific port to your internal IP at port 3389. You then connect to the chosen external port. Google 'remote desktop port forwarding'. How do you remote desktop to the server now?

comment What is the best solution to manage all my website authentication details?
You should only need to install the browser plugin on your main computer, the rest of the time it is easier to use the web interface .. do you really need the features of the plugin everywhere you go?
