If you are asking a programming question this should stay on StackOverflow. If this is a question about how to do it from the GUI, command-line or other, then it should be moved to SuperUser or ServerFault

comment Does 1 Gbit/s port in full-duplex mean 1 Gbit/s send and 1 Gbit/s receive?
Of course, doing a large file copy to a small server's RAID-5 array will also kill its read performance so it may be a wash.

Even for small network sysadmins this can be important. With a limited cheap switch doing a large file copy up to a server can kill its download performance.

comment Should I turn off my PC when plug/unplug external display?
Hmm? The outer ring of all those connector types should be grounded. It's almost impossible to plug one in without touching the grounds together.

comment Why is distributing random pieces of a file faster than a contiguous transfer?
Another comment: I prefer downloading from Bittorrent when possible because of the integrity checking. It is incredibly painful to be forced to redownload an entire DVD ISO because the SHA1 does not match. Bittorrent checks each block so its only a small chunk to replace.

Weird colo bandwidth rule, it sounds like to me. Here in Colorado it seems most colos offer 100 Mbps connections and charge you by usage each month, and it is up to you to manage and limit your own connection speed if you need to keep the cost down.

comment Find misses a match to glob pattern unless the pattern is made more specific
Extra info for readers: "globbing" refers to the shell expanding wildcards into the full filename or a list of filenames. The shell does this before executing the program.

comment Determining if a hard disk has been removed and data copied from it?
@sleske: Yes I know that. Many BIOSes will initialize the drive password with the BIOS password. See dfarq.homeip.net/2011/03/… and dfarq.homeip.net/2011/07/…

@Randolf: But the first and second paragraph combine: the password protection in the BIOS is what also enables AES-128 encryption on many SSD drives.

comment Determining if a hard disk has been removed and data copied from it?
@Randolf: I think Abraxas is speaking of the BIOS encryption. However, I think that if the BIOS supports the drive encryption commands at all, a BIOS on another computer will decrypt the drive also as long as you provide the identical BIOS password.

Just an interesting note, SSDs have been giving some problems to forensics people. The firmware in the SSD will write all over the flash whenever it has power, regardless of if write commands are sent or not. Forex: if the last command received was a TRIM of everything, the SSD will busily zero blocks for future use even if it was immediately powered off.

comment How can I view my video card's temperature via SSH?
If the tool is somehow getting the temperature data from the X server, then redirecting DISPLAY will always get the data from wherever it is being displayed and not the system running the tool.

comment How to force power-off of a Samsung Series 9 laptop?
To avoid having the kernel blink the LEDs you can put i8042.dumbkbd on the kernel command line.

comment How to force power-off of a Samsung Series 9 laptop?
By the way I found out why this happens or at least a theory that holds up in testing. Apparently the power button is handled by the same hardware that handles the keyboard and the LEDs. When the kernel panics and blinks the caps-lock LED this constantly resets the timer for how long the power button has been held down. Therefore the keyboard controller never resets the power.

comment Want Visual Studio 2010 stop using the drive when there's lots of RAM in Windows 7 64 bit
@Hans: To rephrase. My system has 6 GB of RAM that is not entirely used up and should be available as disk write cache for the 100 MB of output files being generated by the project build.
