comment locked files on HFS+ home partition shared between OSX/Linux
@FrankGanske: Just to clarify: the fix "works", but is different from the official one and might have downsides (I guess it would prevent changing userflags on purpose, as the answer acknowledges).

comment How can I get ssh-agent working over ssh and in tmux (on OS X)?
@Rich: true, but that's orthogonal. Everything applies also to Linux and OS X system where the password is not stored in the keychain, with only one exception. The exception is that usually, you'd have to call ssh-add to type the passphrase and load it into the ssh-agent daemon, and it'd last until reboot, while your setup avoids that (see help.github.com/articles/working-with-ssh-key-passphrases for details). I didn't know about that possibility!

AFAIK, question and answers are not OS X-specific. That's relevant to avoid some non-OS X-specific dups, namely superuser.com/q/334975/46794 and superuser.com/q/479796/46794.

To avoid the security problem, have the link in ~/tmp rather than /tmp.

Using /tmp means that anybody else on the machine can clobber any of your files, if he knows their path.

comment Is keeping a KeePass file in Dropbox safe?
@TusharG: AES-256 is being discussed as the Keepass protection; hence, if AES-256 were broken and you have the database, you don't need either the key file or the password to look at its contents. However, the problem doesn't exist: when AES-256 will have been slowly broken, if Keepass is still well maintained it will have migrated to a different encryption standard much more than 30 days before.

On Linux you can't mount directly sparsebundle files, unlike Mac OS X.

AFAICS, currently no requirement for HFS+ exists for either of tmfs. The description mentions HFS, but the steps described will work anyway.
