comment Disable Outlook 2003 splash screen when auto-starting
This program didn't work on WinVista, so I removed it!

comment How can I disable Windows 7's default WiFi drivers?
I previously tried this on administrator:command prompt, but it didn't work. I also disabled this service with msconfig, rebooted and it still respawns!.. Win7 is detecting it as not running, enables it and strats it back up, thus forcing it to be active. That's real crummy on Microsoft's part!

because the Netgear utility program is more robust. The Win 7 utility shows one bar signal strength and Netgear's is showing four bars. I'd like to do away with Win7's driver and utility all together and only rely on Netgears driver and utility programs.

did that also, it disappeared, but then it came back again! I didn't have any problems under WinVista, but Win7 is a different animal. I wish I could install Vista SP2 on this box because I was much happier with it.

I tried what @amiregelz suggested and rebooted, but the default Win7 keeps spawning back!.. Apparently Microsoft has made it so that even if you uninstall their drivers, it keeps comming back.. Frustrating!

comment How can I reduce the size of the Winsxs folder without damaging anything?
If this problem has existed for some time now and has no real solution, I'm wondering why Microsoft has not addressed it a while ago? Win 7 has inherited the same problem and wondering if Win 8 has the same. I've been using a tool called Revo Uninstaller to uninstall programs and their leftover files, but it doesn't seems to remove the associated dll files from winsxs. I also don't understand why many software publishers don't make sure there are no leftovers when uninstalling their software!

comment How can I remove the Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 splash screen?
I already did all of that, thanks anyway!.. I asked this same splash question on Guy's blog but never got a response. What I really would like to do is replace the default VPC2007 splash screen with one of my own choosing. Could I tweak the registry to replace the image, or is it hard-coded into VPC2007?.. I searched in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual PC folder, but could not locate their image file.

Perhaps a program may be needed in order to determine which dll's are not in use?

comment Why does a failed linux login take so long?
distro=distributions.. yeah, for the longest time, there's been a security flaw which very few people know that allow a hacker to obtain the password for root!

comment Why does a failed linux login take so long?
I've noticed a flaw on a couple of Linux systems which permitted me to login as 'bin' without requiring a password!

comment Why does performance of a regular hard drive decrease over the duration of a benchmark while SSD doesn't?
So does a method or tool in Windows exist to pre-allocate (reserve) disk space and extents for files, folders, etc.?.. I do this within a RAW disk partition, using Informix-RDBMS server. We pre-allocate chunks, dbspace, and high-contention tables in the outer spindle.

comment Windows does not recognize the full capacity of my hitachi harddrive
There are two ways of installing U12.04, along side Windows, within the NTFS partition (which I did) and in a separate partition (you did).. Both options offer dual boot at post time. Perhaps if you installed 12.04 within NTFS and created the raw partition for 12.04, it would be visible when booting Win7?

Perhaps its a cosmetic bug since the non-NTFS raw partition may not comform to GUID Partition Table (GPT) spec? msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg463525.aspx .. but as long as everything is there, don't worry and be happy that it didn't get clobbered :)
